I will try to make it short. My best frnd's frnd(actually i know him too via him) wanted platelets( ingreedient of blood) cos his dad has blood cancer. The doctor said any non family member could giv and its a safe process..they take out blood frm the body, seperate platelets and again put tht same blood in our body. the entire process takes 90 to 120 mins... my best frnd approached me since his father was a bit nervous about the 90 min time..its too much.. as i asked my father , even he said NO. i could nt do much..90 min blood flowing out from the body could mean nething...thts wat my father said... I felt so helpless for some time n was heart broken ..as i couldnt do much... i told ma best frnd NO. nothing i can do in here...though i gav him some NGO's no. whr a voluntary blood donor is registered but he jus didnt want to trust the NGO's. Later i got to know tht HE himself donated his platelets for his frnd... DID i do wrong by saying NO?? I could hav donated it ,but my parents were jus not ready...I dont know how my frndship would be wid him after dis incedent ..i just hope it doest get bad... wat u feel?? was i rite in saying NO? How would u tackle this kind of situation...

You were just "obeying" your father so your friend cannot really blame you for it. After all, you did want to help him if your father had said yes. I think your friend blamed you because he was feeling upset then. Give him a bit of time and he will come around.

I do not know why your friend do not donate platelets for his friend in the first place and look for you instead. From what I know, cancer patients would need as many donors as possible. I would have donated platelets if I can. Since I am an independent adult, I do not need to seek parental's consent. Besides, there is not much risk in platelets donation if one is healthy. If one is unhealthy, his offer to donate may even be rejected. It might still not be too late should you decide to be a blood donor or a platelets donor.

As he is your best friend he should understand your possition. Even his father was reluctant to grand him permission. That was why he came to you. Being dependant on your parents you needed permission from them to make the donation. If you are ok with your conscience do not worry about the reaction of your friend. Such things happens in life to everybody.
