I Need Advice

On May 29,2007, I went to Burger King and ordered a meal. Along with the meal came a soda. I ordered a small orange. I ordered my meal to go and my best friend who was with me, picked up a straw for my drink and we left.
Since I live right next door to Burger King, we walked back to my apartment. I hadn't felt like eating breakfast at home like I usually do, so I went there between 9:00a.m. and 10:00a.m. When I got to my place, I immediately sat down at my desk to eat. My freind sat across from me and we were chatting. She had already eaten earlier.
The first thing that I do before eating is stick my straw in the hole at the top of the cup. After I finished eating the last bite of my food, I opened my cup to see how much soda was left. That's when I saw it. There was a bug that looked like it had been smashed up against the side of the cup.
But, before it got smashed, it had obviously been flying around the cup, because there were black residuals from the bug on some parts of the top of the cup. I should my friend and we immediately went back next door and asked for the manager.
She came out and I explained the situation. She took a pencil and used the led tip to slide the bug to the top. She mumbled something about the cup not being like that when I left and then tossed the cup in the trash.
I got upset at the way she handled the situation and asked her to take the cup back out of the trash. She did and handed it back to me. Then, I asked for the number to the corporate office and her name. She wrote her first name down along with a number.
When I got home, I attempted to contact Burger King online, but they have no way for you to e-mail them, so I called the number and left a messege a the extension that she wrote down. I didn't get a call back so the next day, I called back and simply pressed zero and said that I wanted to file a complaint.
They transfered me to someone and I told my story and he took down my name and number and that is the last I have heard of it.
Now, I am not the type that likes to stir up trouble, unless, I feel it is needed. I just don't like the way she disregarded me, as if I were lying. Even though my friend was there as a witness.
I don't know if I should continue to make a stink about this or just drop it and be glad the flying bug didn't end up in my mouth. I go to Burger KIng enough that the evening manager knows me, but I did not feel comfortable with putting him on the spot with something that did not happen on his shift. What would you do in my situation?

If you have a complaint and BK didn't take care of it like they should have, try going here and complaining:
http://www.planetfeedback.com
You can file a complaint through that site and get a lot more response. Companies don't like getting reported to Planet Feedback and will usually do what they can to get back in your good graces.

the corporate office has just left it at that? they didn't offer ANYTHING? that's kinda scary though, i may not go back to the same place if that happened to me, simply cuz the manager was very rude in the fact like you said, she basically just disregarded you. it's nonsense...she should have handeled it better. i hate confrontation too, so i wouldn't know what else you could do now.
i'm sure there is somewhere online maybe you could rate THAT specific restaurant or something? then at least the word gets out there, that they aren't very friendly, especially if you have an issue at hand, LIKE A BUG, EEEWW!!

I would call again nd tell the head office of Burger King how you were mistreated. I had a good friend of mine that had to call the hear office from Popeyes. She had a pieced of chiken that wasn't cooked all the way and blood was still coming out. She took the peice of chicken back to Popeyes. The manager was very rude so she called and complained about it. The sent her free coupons for free chicken. If chiken isn't completly cooked it can make you sick.

You are so right about that, under cooked chicken is nothing to play around with. Especially, if it is still bleeding. I am glad that she was able to resolve the problem. I have decided to take steps to make sure that this will not happen to me or anyone else at Burger King again. I will be posting and update as soon as I hear something.

Hello,
I feel that is very nasty. Burger King was also very unprofessional. They should of responded to you the first time you call. Thats why I try to limit my eating at fast food because now adays people do not care about themselves let alone about someone else. I feel that you have done what you could do!

What ever happened to the customer is always right? In my opinion that was very unprofessional of that manager. She should not have treated you or any other customer like that. I would have called the office too. Since the night manager knows you, I would go back there when he is on duty and tell him what happened and he should tell the day manager that your a loyal customer and you should not have been treated like that. What she should have done was apologize to you when you first brought this to her attention and give you some free vouchers or a gift certificate to make up for the inconvience you had gone through. I still think she owes you an apology and I would talk to the evening manager who knows you. No business wants to loose a customer and they are suppose to make their customers happy so they will return to their establishment.

I would think that they would not want to lose a loyal customer. But I believe that she assumed since she had not seen me before, that she would never see me again. I have lived over here for two years, but I don't normally go there in the morning. Now, thanks to this situation, I go even less. But it is better for my health anyway.

You have to be very careful with the fast food chains running endlessly. But, if you really do not have any option than to take food from these outlets, then you must check your food at once since this thing happened to you, your mind will always be alert.
And, the manner which they dealt is very unprofessional. You can mention what happend to the evening manager. May be he could help you out to put the complain. Take care.

I would push it because that is just nasty. I had the same thing happen to me, but I had ants in my cup. I took it back and they said sorry and made a new drink (that I later dumped out).
They told me it wouldn't happen again. I dropped it, but I wish I would of done something more because when I went to work that day, one of my coworkers was complaining of the same thing (ants in her cup).
I think they should look inside all cups before they serve drinks to anyone. Sometimes those cups sit and sit for months. So the cups should be checked out. PLus maybe the fountain should be inspected.
I would see how far you can get with this. That is just sick and they need a health inspector to pay a surprise visit on them. So call the health department.

I would have gone to the board of health. I am sure they will be happy to check it out for you and to do a surprise inspection of the BK.
It is disgusting, one would think that at minimum, the manager would have apologized profusely and given you a new drink. BUt you were blown off..the manager should be in the unemployment line today.

oh my goodness how awful for you. If I were in your situation, I would have did the same as you, and I think you should at least have that manager reprimanded for her blatant disregard of your situation. If you think it can help, maybe you can talk to the evening manager that you are acquaintances with then maybe you ask his advice as to what to do, if burger king usually just ignores this kinda stuff then I guess there is nothing you can do, but if not, then maybe the evening manager can help you and vouch for your integrity (something like that) cause they are a service company and they should take care of their customers. But if you just simply disregarded this then it might happen again, maybe not to you but to others and that manager who disregarded you will just continue to be so.

I hope that this never happens to anyone else. They sure don't know how to make their customers feel valued. But it has taught me a good lesson. Things just aren't the same quality that they use to be. People don't have the for the little things any more. I know one thing, I have definitely stop going there the way that I use to.
The one time that I have gone since then, I checked everything before leaving the resturant. When something like that happens to you in a place like that, you learn to not assume take for granted that everything will be clean.
Their motto is "Have it your way," but it should go on to say, and we might throw in a few extra surprises that you don't want and are not expecting.

Hi Rozie!
I think you definitely need to keep trying to get in touch with the corporate office. If this happened to you there is a strong possibility of it happening to someone else. The manager was rude to you and should be reported, that is absolutely uncalled for. If a business wants to stay in business they need to pay attention when someone brings up a complaint, if not maybe they don't need to be in business anymore.

Rozie I feel you where not treated well. I feel if the manager believed you or not she should have appoligized to you and given you some sort of a coupon for your trouble. Not just thrown the cup away. I think you will be hearing from Burger king soon. I feel you need to check your cups now before filling them up. I am assuming you filled them up your self. I could imanage the bug could have been in the cup, bugs are everywhere. If you do not hear from Burger king soon I would call cooperate again and ask what they plan to do about this problem.

I wouldn't even worry about needing a witness. That is absolutly WRONG and they need to handle it, not brush you off! What I would do is call back and let them know the board of health is being notified of the situation, and see what they say and then indeed call the health dept. That is so gross. I am sorry that happened to you. I would also tell the local store manager that said it wasn't like that when you left, that you are calling the health department and see if she has a change of heart or still brushes you off.

If I was put in that kind of situation I would had been more aggresive in making a lot of fuzz with regards to the bug, more so because of the way the manager assigned on that shift mishandled the situation. Anyway, since it was already more than a
week since that incident, if you ask me, I would just
lay the bug case to rest and avoid Burker King so that
sad experience will be forgotten altogether.

I would take it further. The fly in the cup was bad enough but for it to be implyed that I lied I would not hold still for. I would go to her manager and explain that it was totally uncalled for the way I was treated. I would be asking for a apology and also suggest that their employees take a course in the proper response to customers. I would have than called the head office and explain to them that I didn't like the fly in the glass but the way I was treated made it worse. The people that work in these places need to be made accountable for their actions and dealt with appropriately. You have gone there many times and this is a possible way to lose your business.
