My mum used to tell me that I need to blow dry my hair before I go to sleep because according to her it's not good for our health.I asked her once why and she answered that it can cause blindness. I just don't know if it's true all along but up to now, she never really forget to remind me that. I have seen a few individuals of whom after having a soothing shower, will go to bed immediately not minding their wet hair. Glad to know too that they haven't gone blind even if they were consistent with that kind of routine. Is really bad for our health or is just a myth? ;)

Yeah I know that also since my grandmother used to remind me that when I was young too. But I outgrew it already and now I am sleeping with my hair wet too. I do not see any changes in my sight at all. Although I am already near sighted already.

My mother use to tell me that I would get sick (as in a cold) if I did not dry my hair before I went to sleep. Some days I can't be bothered waiting for it to air dry so i place a towel on my pillow and fall off to sleep. I have found that I do get cold at night though LOL

I am so guilty of this. I feel really sleepy after taking a bath. I'm not particularly sure if what they're saying is true or not but as per my experience, I get headaches most of the time or feel light headed when I wake up. My pillow probably hates this habit of mine. :)

It is just a myth , my mom used to tell me to dry my hair or I would end up really sick . She used to say that you shouldn't go outside if your hair is wet or go to bed if your hair is wet but I have found there is nothing nicer then getting out of the shower and waiting for you hair to dry just a bit and then jumping into bed in some clean fresh sheets . I do believe that it could make one sick if it was cold out or cold in your room when you went to bed but not when it is nice and I have never really noticed that I have ever got sick from this as for going blind this is just not possible from wet hair .

Well.. I still can see although I need glasses to read LOL
I do go to bed with my hair wet very often. I never blow dry my hair, I always let it dry by itself.
I really don't know how bad it is for the health. Probably not good at all, but I never had a problem so far :)

I'm not quite sure about it. My family and relatives always remind me about this thing too. I don't know if there's a scientific explanation for it. I try not to sleep with wet hair but sometimes I forget to. My parents would scold me for doing so. Hopefully it would not make me blind soon.

I absolutely agree with your mother,it is harmful to you when you sleep with wet hair.I always wash my hair at night, but I will make it dry before I go to sleep.it makes me feel better when I lie on bed,and also can make me fall asleep as quickly as possible.

hehehe. when we were kids, people told us about that line. but my mom always tells us that it isn't a fact. it's just what people use to scare kids not to sleep with hair while wet. but it won't cause us to have lice... anne

Well, if sleeping with wet hair causes blindness, I should have been blind many years ago. Moms say crazy things sometimes in an attempt to get you to do things that you don't want to do. I guess your mom was grasping at straws when she came up with that one.

I'm pretty sure no one ever went blind from sleeping with their hair wet, since your scalp and your optic nerve aren't connected. My mother always said that I would catch meningitis by sleeping with wet hair, since that is either caused by bacteria or a virus, I'm pretty sure that was an exaggeration, too. I can see how it could give you a headache the next day, since it would make your head cold, which is probably what gave rise to those myths.
I have often gone to bed with my hair damp, but not soaking wet, since it is very long my pillow would end up soaked if I did. Never had a problem with a headache (or blindness :-)) but I'm sure htat varies from person to person.

The only way I think it would be unhealthy is if your wet hair causes you to catch cold.My mom would wash her hair and wrap it in a small towel, she had very short hair, and go to bed. Her head was covered so she didn't catch cold.

Most of the year I would say there's no health risk. If you live in a cimate with winter you'd probably catch more colds. I personally rarely go to bed with my hair wet and because I don't like to blow dry my hair and won't unless it is winter time before heading outside. If I've taken a late shower it just means probably another in the morning because I don't like the way my hair looks in the morning if I slept with it wet.
