My Mom always used this poultice for boils and festering sores and it worked like a bomb.
Mix equal quantities Sunlight soap (rough washing soap) and sugar. Warm this mixture to a temp that can just be taken on bare skin., put onto a peice of pink lint and bandage onto affected area .Leave on overnight and when you remove it the sore will be open and much,much better.

Yeah, poultices are really effective treatment for boils. It will help some pus to erupt like a volcano!
What about using herbals like leaves in making poultices? Or, have you tried making poultice with activated charcoal?
