I missed My baby's first steps!

I wasn't there when my 9 month old took his first steps. I'm a little sad really. My husband saw it, and I'm glad one of us got to witness it, but I really wish it had been me. I know, that's kind of selfish, especially since I have been there for so many other first's, first smile, coo, rolling over, crawling etc. I still wanted to be there! (: Also, I didn't even think he was that close to walking yet, because he was barely cruising, and has not even stood up w/out help, or acted like he was really interested. My hubby said, he was laying down, and pulled him self up, then turned around and walked three steps to the bed and then grabbed on for dear life! I hope he does it again soon. Were you there for your baby's first steps?

I had five sons and I was a stay-at-home mum, like most were in my day, so I saw all my babies' "firsts". I hear so many younger mothers today express regret that they missed out on all the wonderful times with their children because they had to work. What a shame. I am not criticising those who work. That is their choice, but my personal feeling is that I would rather do without things than to leave my children to be cared for by others. Maybe if I lived in different circumstances I would be forced to change my mind.

Thanks for the welcome back. I have been exceptionally busy with quite a bit of travelling - training in New Zealand, training, camps and holiday clubs in Queensland and NSW - and much paper work and writing. I am still busy, but try to spend an hour here every day to keep up with friends.

Cloudwatcher, first welcome back, it's been awhile since i've 'seen' you on line. (: I agree with you, I think I too would be regretful if I chose to work instead of stay home with my boys. I stay at home and STILL managed to miss something (though I have seen him do it plenty of times since then) but I couldn't imagine those moment I would miss if I had to work. I do think most women who work, don't have much of a choice (or they don't think they do) and would love to stay home, I do realize I am very blessed to stay home. I wouldn't have it any other way though. There are many things we do without, but we always have food, and shelter and our family around us, and to me that's much more important than having a new car or even cable. I would much rather spend my days on the floor with my boys, then wondering if someone else was taking the time to play with them. It is a shame that not everyone has that choice.

don't feel too bad about it... you've seen all the other firsts! so it's time your hubs had one up on you! btw, it's really quick that your son is taking his first steps at 9 months. i was a little show-off. my mum said that i started walking exactly on my first birthday party. most kids only start walking when they reach 12 months i think!

Yes, I know, it's about time his daddy gets to see something before I do! (: Since he changed jobs awhile back, he's been able to be home with the boys more.. so it's nice (that's why he changed jobs actually) 9 months is early, my oldest started around then too ( a little earlier I do believe) My oldest when he first started walking, just walked.. he acted like he'd been doing it forever, no hesitation, but the youngest, is 11 months now, and still doesn't do it consistently, he's too scared he's going to fall, and would rather hold on to someone's hands.. *sigh* but he does it here and there.. if i won't hold his hands, sometimes he'll get frustrated and do it himself. (:

I wasn't there for all of my babies first steps. This is where the camera has become very important! It still seemed like I was there for the ones I missed when I got the pictures back.

yes, I missed the first time, but i'll see it the second time, really it doesnt matter in the grand scheme of things.. although I am still a little jelous that hubby got to see it. (: right now he's acting as if his legs are useless, so I think it will be awhile before he shows me his walking skills. (:

I think I missed my son's first steps. I saw him walk across the room at daycare and someone said something along the lines of me not seeing that before? I count all their milestones when I see it with my own eyes. Both my kiddo's were 9 months when they started walking too. :) Have fun chasing your little one!

I am sorry that you did not get a chance to see your baby's first step. I don't have any kids but I was there when my sister's and my brother's kids took the first step. My sister inlaw uses bad words all the time and the youngest's first word was f--k, boy did I freak out. I hope you guys have a video cam so that you can tape your son's younger days. I know these are the happy times.

Im not sure if I was there or not. When my first was born and I went back to work, I missed almost all of his firsts. :( I got really depressed about this and cried ALL THE TIME. SO I think by the time walking came around my MIL quit telling me that she had seen him do this and that, LOL Working ovenights I am sooo tired and him being a baby I could get the sleep that I needed, and I did so I spent alot of time away from him :(

Yes, It stinks that I missed his first steps, but i'm sure that when I see him walk for the first time, it will be spectacular! I'm ready for him to get going, so he can keep his older brother entertained, and vice versa.
