I believe Windows XP Professional is good. XP Media Center is for connecting to the T.V. so that you can view your computer stuffs on T.V. and surf the internet through the T.V. screen.

Each version of XP is designed for specific needs of the end user (you), so in truth the best way to find which version is the best is to find out what exactly you are going to use your computer for and then chose the right OS. Xp home is a dumbed down version of XP pro, this vrsion is for home use, internet, office and otherbasicfunctions XP Pro utilises the Remote Assistance app which allow a remote computer to connect to your pc. This is used usually in cases where a technician connect to fix or diagnose a problem with your computer. Xp MediaCenter, well the name says it all its, this version basically turns your pc into a dvr

ofcourse it has to be XP professional with service pack 2, if you are having a 64bit pc then you can go for xp professional 64bit version. (its good when the softwares also support 64bit)
