I would absolutely love to learn how to speak Russian!! Here in Ontario where I was born and where I grew up, we took French in school. I can't remember most of it right now, but if I were to go back to Quebec for a few days, I know I would remember it all.

I took German, French and Spanish in middle school & high school and I took French in College. I'm getting ready to take Spanish in College. I'd love to learn Russian or Italian but they aren't offered at my school.

I actually started grade school in a school that taught French to all of the students, from kindergarten all the way through eighth grade (it was a private school). I switched schools in fifth grade, though. In high school, we had to take at least two years of a foreign language. Unfortunately, French was only offered for two years, unlike German and Spanish, which you could take for four years. In college, I tested out of my first semester of French, but had to take three semesters so that I could get a B.A. Those three semesters also carried me through my master's degree language requirements, and got me through half of my Ph.D. language requirements. Unfortunately, the 2nd language requirement for my Ph.D. is one of the reasons I don't have that degree... :(

I took Latin in high school, and honestly, now I wish I had taken either French or Spanish. I want to go to Europe in the near future, but I don't speak any languages and I feel it would hold me back from really experiencing different countries the way I want to.

Because we were under British rule before, English is a compulsory subject in school since kindergarten. I have been studying it since kindergarten and I even major in English Literature when I went into university. Since I am very much interested in other cultures and languages, I took up French language and culture when I was in university. It was good fun and I got to learn a lot from it. Too bad that my French is fading away from me now because I don't get to practice a lot and I tend to forget many stuff that I learned. One day, I hope that I would be able to visit France and "utilize" my French for a little bit.
