I haven't rate responses so far and was wondering the same as you. I think I'll wait about one week after the thread is started and then I'll rate responses.

Most of the time I try to rate the responses people leave to discussion I have started. After all they have taken the time to respond so the least I can do is give them a rating. I'm not sure if or how it effects your earnings.

Some say that rating a conversation dos nothing but help your rating go up....I'm a 10,the highest you can get and I've spent days in here where all I did was rate and my earnings went up.....I don't think anyone really knows how things happen here, except for the people who work it....

I usually rate discussions and replies that I read. I don't know if it pays any more money. But I think it helps determine the people's star rating.

Yeah I rate EVERY response that I read and that people post in my discussions as most of you know. Pretty much I always rate them +, unless it is obvious that they are only spamming or breaking a rule such as posting their referral links on here, which I see a lot :-\ Anyways I rated your topic and the previous two responses +. ;-)And no it does not affect your earnings, just follow the advice given by the precious response. :-)
