There is a possibility that you Outlook Express freezes because it might have encountered a problem while opening you e-mail. You also need to consider checking what are the most recent changes that you made to the computer, whether it is software or hardware-related. Take note of the last time it actually worked without any problems since you can do a SYSTEM RESTORE on the computer to an earlier point in time to revert back and undo the changes that might have caused outlook express to lock up. You should also run a full system scan using your antivirus and anti-malware since your computer also might have gotten infected by a virus, trojan, etc. If all else fails, you also need to check your ISP if they have current issues with their SMTP and POP3 settings. In worst cases you might need to uninstall and reinstall your outlook express.
To perform system restore, you need to make sure that you already had it turned on in the past since it automatically creates a restore point after you made changes to the computer, whether it hardware or software related. To open system restore:
startall programsaccessoriessystem toolssystem restore
It will eventually restart as it reverts the computer back to the chosen date in the past.
