My uncle used to travel for his job, and he would rack up so many frequent flier miles that he would take my mom (his sister) to Hawaii once a year. She always brought back the most beautiful pictures, and I am still jealous that she got to go probably five times in as many years.
I suspect that if I do go on a big vacation, I will not go to Hawaii, but pick a different island instead. But if someone offered me the opportunity to do it for free or fairly cheap, I'd probably go! :)

Hawaii is an expensive trip, but there are ways to save money. I have a credit card through United and I earn frequent flyer miles for every $1 spent. I had a free ticket for my last trip to Hawaii that I earned that way. Of course never pay rack rate for a hotel room. Check out discounts like AAA or the entertainment book. We were able to get a room on Waikiki Beach for a discounted $160 (rack rate $300). It's still expensive, but at least it's more affordable.

While I do not have a great travel deal in my hands right now - there are wonderful deals all the time out there. Have you ever signed up with Travelocity? They can notify you when the airfare drops by whatever amount you decide. And you get a better price for a package deal thru them. ALSO please join clubs and other groups because they get the best deals. One neighbor I know belongs to a hiking club and that was how she wound up going to Hawaii to hike up the volcanos. Never would have afforded it otherwise...Lots of tour groups etc that get great deals, like Apple Vacations and that kind of weekend getaways. Good Luck! Where there's a will there's a way.

i never thought we would be able to afford it. but not too long ago my husband and i were talking about going for our 10th anniversary. so for the heck of it i picked a travel site and looked it up. air, hotel and rental car for us and our 3 kids for a week was like $4,000. that is not bad at all for all that and a family of 5. now, most likely we'll decide to leave the kids at home. maybe, i would hate for them to miss out on such a trip.
