I heard a comment on the news that viewership of the NBA finals this year is the lowest of all time. The reporter stated that this was due to a loss of interest in the game. i submit that this is not the cause for a loss of viewers, but, instead, it is because they have moved everthing to cable tv and many former loyal fans (like myself) cannot afford the high cost of cable. I watch the games religiously whenever they are shown on network tv. It's sort of like they moved all the wrestling to cable. Well, evidently the WWE had second thoughts because they returned at least one of their shows to network tv.

I would have to agree with you on this. If it wasn't for cable my husband would not be watching the NBA finals on tv. I also think its because of the two teams that are in the finals maybe? less popular than the others? but then again maybe not. I shouldn't assume that because I hardly have time to watch any basketball.

in our country, basketball used to be such a big hit, too. the finals will surely be a day when tickets are not only sold out, rather they are being resold at more than five times the regular price at times. now, this is no longer so, vacant seats are the most common sights at the stadium where the games are being held. even the finals are no longer such hits. the cold treatment could be due to more pressing problems men are faced with.

Well, I am a Pistons fan and to hear the amouncers tell it all through the previous series, MR Basketball from Cleveland is the second coming for our presrent day. Every other sentence mentioned the tremendous player we all know as Mr Jordan, Part II. What a crock. I have to give Cleveland credit for beating the Pistons because Detroit totally lost its focus and did not deserve to win the series. According to the media, this should have been the greatest sports series of all time. Mr Everything going to the finals for what will be the next 8 seasons in a row, no doubt. I think the problem is not with cable because most true sports fans will pay for cable or satellite and the majority of homes in the country have one of those services. I think many people are so tired of hearing about one guy all the time; whether it is MR Superstar from Cleveland or The Dunkster from San Antonio.

there are some who will always prefer to watch shows on tv nowadays. whereever they have it, people will just simply switch so. besides, people are now finding ways to cut on their budget. it seems that life is getting more and more difficult to manage. last night, they say that prices are going up again in our country, despite all the economic gains that the current government has achieved. there are so many things that is playing with the economies of scale these days. there is nothing much that we can take to be most reliable sources anymore.

Granted aside from local teams most games are on Cable. ESPN, TNT, and NBA TV. The Finals are of course on ABC. The vast majority of the American populace however does have cable or satelitte TV.
I think what is hurting the finals more than anything else is the teams that are involved. The outcome is a forgone conclusion as one is entirely outmatched.
The other issue is that watching the San Antonio Spurrs dominate the Cav's is boring. Their style of play, with the heavy defense doesn't let Lebron, be Lebron. So everyone loses, especially Lebron.
I would wager that if the Lakers and the Celtics of the 80's were playing right now, and that the teams were evenly matched and everyone knew that they would witness greatless that ratings would indeed be much higher. (Hows that for a run-on sentance? My second grade english teacher woud be proud.)
