will you donate your blood to someone who really needs it?

I encountered someone in multiply.com who needs 8 blood donors for their baby Paoie in replace of the blood platelets that was used to him.
The University of Santo Tomas(UST) Hospital will not let baby Paoie to go home unless they complete the eight.
As of now, they have I think only 2 blood donors and they still need six blood donors.
I haven't tried giving my blood for some said that it is really painful and you will feel weak. I want to do it but my grandma did not allowed me to do so since I am eating less this past few days. I am not eating my breakfast always he he.
Another reason why she did not let me to do that is that I am underage. I am only 17 and I am not allowed.
Therefore, the only thing I can do is find some help for the Falcon family.
This is a shame to the part of the University of Santo Tomas Hospital which is a part of our school too. The Falcon family has less money for the hospital bills and they want to pay the bill for 5 years with monthly interest and then the UST Hospital just laughed.
A real scenario in the hospitals. I understand the part of the hospital that it is also their business, their living but can't they just put it aside for some moment and give some time for the helpless baby?
I know some can't understand Tagalog but there are also some English words here so please take a minute to see that. All I can do now is ask for people's help. That's all I can do to help them.

The requirements are usually the same all over, you have to be 110 pounds, so you can not donate. If they are only looking for platelets then who ever donates is not donating blood, only their platelets. Your blood comes out of one arm, goes through a special machine where the platelets are removed and the blood is returned minus the platelets into your other arm. This is called Plateletpheresis. So the person would not feel weak after wards because your blood is being returned to you. When you donate a whole pint of blood in a regular blood donation, sometimes people feel a little weak that is why they are given juice and cookies after the donation and your body replaces the red blood cells in 56 days that's why people can donate a pint of blood every 56 days.

In as much as I like to offer my help, I'm afraid I'm not in the right position to do so. I have a very low red blood count and still taking my regular medication.
Why not suggest the Falcone family to contact The Philippine Red Cross. Another option will be through Rosa Rosal or Lucy Torres' program, Damayan. The program aims to help people who needs blood.
I can understand how hard it is to feel ridiculed just because you have no money. The hospital staff is quite rude and have no right to treat anyone with disrespect. Try to air this concern over the media. I'm sure the Falcone will be able to get more support there.

yes the Philippine Red Cross is a great idea, I will tell them right away. I even told them to seek some help from Channel 2 and Channel 7 but they rejected them. They said, its just a normal case. Oh my god, media people.

I have never donated blood because like you iam very weak as i dont take my food properly but donating blood is a very noble cause as someones life is saved due to this.
But when i get some text messages for need of blood to some patients i always pass on the message to all known persons so that atleast 1-2 would defintly donate blood seeing the message.
Hope i should also improve my health and donate blood to the needy in the near future.

If I knew I could help someone then I would but I am not sure that I would be able to do this as I have a lot of medical problems myself but if it was ever found out that my blood could help someone else , even though I am terrified of needles and blood , I would be willing to do it . The thought to be able to give someone the chance of life and especially a child would be the greatest gift anyone could ever give . I can't imagine what this family is going through knowing they need this for their child and they are unable to get it . I pray they will get all they need in time . This is a really sad story .

Of course we human beings have emotions and a heart to understand the pain go through we are really sensitive to needy people so i feel my conscience will persuade me to donate blood to the needy one and there's no harm to give life to some one and it really what i gain is my mental satisfaction. So why not be the first to cooperate.

they need blood in exchange of the platelets that was used for baby Paoie. I think it will lessen the hospital bill. =)

Yes if I was healthy and they would accept my blood I would always donate to someone in need. I use to donate when I was just 15 with my parents permission. Back in those days they paid you money for the donations. I don't think they do that now. I know if I ever needed blood I would want donors, so I would be one of the first ones in line to give mine. I think you could either find some people for the donations since there are now restrictions on the age allowed. Any kind of help for the child is better than none.
I always drank juice before giving blood so I would not feel weak. They also usually give you juice if you do feel weak afterwards. It does not hurt at all. It is just like when they take a tube of blood from arm for bloodwork. The needle is just in longer and it takes longer.
Anyone who can help another human to survive will always have others help them. I try to help anyone I know who is less fortunant than myself. So tryeverything you can to help, you will be rewarded for your good deeds in the end.

I used to donate blood 4 or 5 times a year from age 18 on but am now not allowed to do so I am from Scotland and after the mad cow scare in the 90's in the UK anyone who lived there before 1987 was forbidden from giving blood. I check in every now and again with the blood bank but the ban still stands to this day

Every time you donate, its actually 3 sacs of blood, im not sure if thats 3L but yea, its 3 sacs. and the blood type must be the same as the baby as well.. thats why its hard to find. 60% of us are blood type O, and 35% of us are blood type O+, which is the most popular. Im a blood type O+, this means that i can give blood to anyone is a +, so thats about 60% of people, however, i can only receive blood from O+ people, so thats about 35%.
thats why its probably taking so long for the baby to be treated, its probably an O.. but i dono lol

no the bloods to be donated are only in exchange to the platelets used to the baby. I think they need it to lessen their bills in the hospital. =)

That is a very sad thing that the hospital is not doing more to help the baby and work with the parents, but your right it is an all too common scenario these days. While the medical world is becoming a booming business, we should still remember that above all we are human and in special cases regarding an infant such as this you would think that they could work with them, it is not like they don't want to pay, they will pay in monthly installments, some hospitals do make special terms for this type of issue. A human life is a human life, it is worth more to me than a mere dollar amount.
