im kinda torn between my current job and a job offer. im currently working in a government agency and suffice to say that my salary is...i guess just okay for a single person like me. but i could say that with my current salary, i wont be able to save a lot of money in just a year. in fact, i've been working for more than a year now and i have only saved enough for a PROMO ticket to hongkong! not even enough for a nokia N73. ^__^;; i dont want an N73 though. ^_^;; but you know my point...
and then i have this job offer.. its actually project-based and the project's duration is only a year. but there's a possiblity that it will be replicated to other sites and IF the project leaders and consultants will be satisfied and impressed with my job, they MIGHT rehire me if the project will be replicated. notice the big caps there... its all just a possibility. ^__^;; and so about the salary, its kinda TWICE my current salary and who wouldnt be enticed with that??? with that kind of salary i'd be able to save a lot and i may even save enough to send my mother for a vacation in the US for more than a month! ^__^;;
but the thing is... its only for a year and that's it. i wont have a job after a year. and there wont be any job waiting for me here in my current office. and finding a job is difficult these days. and with my current job now, its actually not a lifetime job also but im sure it will be for more than a year. but the chances to be permanent is kinda still dark. ^.^;; and the only light im seeing here is im earning regularly with a much less stress and difficulty. and i have a 2-day rest period, saturday and sunday. im not sure of the working days with the job offer but i think i might have to work on weekends. ^__^;;
so guys... which would you rather choose???

look friend, if you're not interested, just give it to me..ehehe...you see, i only got 1 year to work, then by next year i'll start my graduate school program..so if your not interested, i would selfishly be glad to have it..haha..
but for friendship sake, maybe there's an extra slot for the two of us. i'm not into money secretbear. but you know, we're both working in the same agency (though in different regions) and i think it's enough that you shouldnt settle in this kind of job.you know what i mean. try to choose that bigger option (atleast u gain experience in other fields/offices). this is just a suggestion. and i trust you so much (i mean your attitude towards work...) that i know, they WILL rehire you..notice the big caps there? and you can still contact me in my cellfone numbers: ######### and ###########...miss you!!

I'm torn between being interested and not being interested. pero alam mo ba, one of the division chiefs told me that they MIGHT make me the section chief for the information section. imagine that! what do you think shall I do if in case its true?
anyway.. yan.. yang ganyang pgkabilib na yan that scares me. why do all of you expect so much of me? one word, pressure. and its really scary coz what if I wouldn't be able to at least achieve 1% of that expectation? i'd be damned.
unfortunately, there's only one slot for an RA. sorry friend! ^__^ I wish there was 2, i'd definitely recommend you. so we'll be together, gimmick together, and landi together. ^__^;;

you have a good point there. actually, i dont really trust what that div.chief said to me. its like, bulaklak ng bunganga. ^__^;; but its kinda flattering to be offered a position like that di ba. deep inside, my eyes pop wide when she told me that. but of course, i played like mild "talaga po?", without changing expressions. haha..
anyway... my job here is not that bad, though im really not contented with it. maybe because of its comfy-ness that makes me hesitant to jump into another work. y'know.. every monday we have a service going here into the office. i dont have to hurry every day since i stay here. every friday we also have a service. that's a lot to lessen the expenses. not to mention the free internet. hahaha!
pero if im asked again, i dont think i will refuse. ^__^;; its hard to let an opportunity pass by. and i think i need a new environment. nawawalan ng saysay ang kagandahan ko dito eh. hahaha! who knows, i might meet someone there right? hahaha!

oh really? secretbear, you know our system in the office...not that im not discouraging you or giving you false hopes. but give yourself a bigger break. dont settle for that "senior postion thing" coz ive known contractuals here in our region who spent 12years working, yet, they're not regulars pa rin.they've gt married, had children,etc. grab the other one friend. if i were given an oppprtunity like yours, magkamatayan na, iiwan ko trabaho ko sa gobyerno. atleast mas makakapagipon ka dun sa isa, and by the time you finish your contract, it wouldnt be hard for you to get another job (just in case they wont give you any renewal..hehe).

Life is short secretbear. If your current position doesn't
appear to be permanent or you just don't want it to be, then
perhaps you my seriously consider this offer. It sounds like
you don't have all the needed info to make a final decision
yet.
Do your research to find out exactly what to expect if you go
work for these people. If I've gotten to know you at all since
we've been talking, is that you aren't satisfied with just being
satisfied. You strike me as someone who wants to continue to grow.
That is extremely important in life. If this new position
offers you the opportunity to learn & grow while earning twice
as much and has a working environment you find suitable, then
go for it.
I know you've heard the saying. "Nothing ventured is nothing
gained." In case you haven't, what it basically means is live
life fully so regrets don't haunt you later.
In addition, this is something else to add to your resume.
Because you know for certain this job may only last a year,
put all the money you can afford away. Think about what to
do with it after the position has ended or you are rehired.

the only information I have is a copy of the draft proposal given to me by one of the project's implementors. its only a draft and just a simple proposal and I bet its not as "intensive" as a proposal should be. and I'm kinda hesitant to ask coz it will be as if...like, so eager to accept it and they might think that I'm already accepting the job when they haven't asked me yet. in any case, i'll do as you advised, i'll try to find out more than I already know.
not satisfied with just being satisfied??? does that sound like not being contented with I have?? ^_^;; I do want to grow more and learn more. I'm not satisfied with what I am right now, I mean with what I have with my resume. ^__^;; there's still a lot that I want to do like getting a masters and a phd and taking the board exam. the framework of my plan is already on my mind and I only need time to start on it. ^__^
hmmm... I do have imagined myself regretting not accepting the job. and I have also imagined people telling me that I have wasted a good opportunity... I guess that could be a push-through. LOL

That is a tough decision, and not one that should be taken lightly. I guess that since you know that the new job would last for at least a year but is not permanent, I would wonder what your chances are of getting a job at least as good again once this one was over. I would not want to be stuck with no job after this job ended, but at the same time, it does sound like a good opportunity for you.

it really does sound like a good opportunity and I'm really tempted by the salary. I guess my chances of finding a job after the project ended would depend on my performance on that project. and as far as I have read the details of it, I can do the work well. but it will be my first time to work with americans and I have no idea on their standards. I'm still "floating" and no one has told me any updates yet. ^_^;;

take the offer, from what you're saying, it is a good oppurunity...and judging from your experience, and your performance at work, I think you'll have a good chance of finding another job if that project your going to apply to is done...Plus you'll be able to meet other people who may be able to refer you to another job after the project...but please make sure that they'll accept you before you resign from your current job.
it's still your decision though...good luck

thanks sem. ^__^
