I completely agree with you. I found the film difficult to watch because the portrayals are chillingly accurate and the movie so well written. Norton's slow aawakening to the poison he has been fed for so long was riveting. Reminded me of Goodfellas in a way, another touch film for me to watch. Violence almost always turns me off a movie but these films kept me captivated in spite of the violence.

I saw this a few years ago on TV and then when it was on again I recorded it and then watched it again a few months back. It is a really powerful film and anyone watching it can't help but be moved by it. Some of the scenes of violence I found quite unbearable but I know it was necessary for the plot. Ed Norton was absolutely superb in his role in the film and it's no surprise that he was nominated for an Oscar for his role. It was good that he did win 2 awards for Best Actor - Satellite Awards 1999 and Southeastern Film Critics Association Awards 1999 too. The kid who played the younger brother was amazing too. There aren't many films that can leave you feeling the way this one did when it ended, I remember crying at the end of the film every time I've watched it!

I think the violence is needed in this movie becasue it shocks and lets you see the bad side of racism
