What kind of Discussions do you like to Respond to?

I have always had some difficulty thinking of suitable discussions.
I know I have a tendancy to begin "heavy" discussions, news items, etc... such as cancer treatments, shark attacks, crimes, weather disasters, that sort of thing.
Occasionaly I think of something to do with education, or child care, or even My LOt.
Any question I have about My Lot always gets a greater number of responses than other discussions I start.
Then I sometimes start discussions about cats or dogs, seeing as they are popular with some other My lotters (and I love reading about pets myself).
I don't really start any discussions about personal issues, as I just find that too hard, & I think boring to other people. I have noticed though, that personal issues started by other people get a lot of responses, sometimes..
I find it almost impossible to start discussions about little things, such as the type of toothpaste everyone uses.
So I am really curious now!
Given a whole range of topics that you may choose to respond to, what kind of discussions do you prefer to respond to?

I find, for me, it's easier to respond to discussions than start them. And, I'll respond to just about anything I'm interested in, or a topic I'm following in the news, and/or from personal experience something I can contribute to. I haven't been a member long enough to have anything to say (yeah or nay) about myLot, but I do read a lot of the discussions relating to same. I probably read more than I post too. Somedays, I just don't have the time to write a response, but I do read my e-mail to see what has been posted.

I tend to respond when I feel I can offer new information, or help. I will not respond if I am uninformed. I like gardening questions, questions about kids and health and elderly, and childcare. I like things about travel. I probably would not respond if you asked me about my toothpaste. Or I might, for you. I respond more often to my friends. Less often do I go into other categories, like hot topics. I may be missing out in that way, though.

Yopu are probably a bit like me, information orientated. But not everyone wants this. Never mind, I will try & think of some lighter topics.

hi there jennybianca
first i go to my friends discussions and have a look. i answer to all type of discussions, but only when i have to say something that might interest the others. you are one of the first i check out ;-) but like i said, sometimes im not able to answer, because i dont know what to say-
after that i go to the other discussions and do the same.
i think its not funny, to answer with yes i agree, or something else, and nothing more. so i better stay quiet when i dont have something to add.
but what i see is, most of the users like it to answer to "easy" threads

I completely agree that users want easier discussions. I will have to think of some.

Hi there jennybianca!
Honestly, the discussions which I prefer to respond to are discussions which very simple, and are not very heavy. I just find it a little bit hard to jump into discussions which are too serious and demand very deep analysis and explanation - maybe that's because I like my mylot experience to be very light and enjoyable. I also have this inclination in commenting on things that are related to my daily life - chores, watching tv, mylotting and many more simple discussions.
Happy mylotting! B-)

A lot of people prefer the lighter discussions. That makes sense, & I will bear that in mind.

I always answer my friend list first and select topics that I know something about now, so can give a great response. If I don't know anything about the subject, then I don't post. Some of the topics, I post on are tropical fish, aquariums, ponds, television, and food.

I choose discussions that I can relate to. Something already known to me or else I will not have information to share. And most of those discussions are listed in my interest so when I open myLot I look first at the interest section and pick the ones that are easy for me to respond to.
I don't normally respond to personal discussions such as the one you gave as an example. But if a person responded to my discussion and there's nothing else in his/her discussion that I can relate to then I pick the personal ones.

Hi Jenny. Since joining mylot, I have a general rule when responding to discussions: No religion, politics and personal matter. Current issues are well appreciated but apparently, there are some topics that I can't relate to.
All my threads are very simple, general and light-hearted one. I prefer humorous and witty topics too. Parenting, health, animals, people and general topics are some of the discussions that always catches my eyes.

I would like discussions that ask me for my knowledge of something and usually about pets or situations in relationships and may be a little funny situations here and there. But usually I respond the best in situations where people are in real need of help and I happened to know the best answer...

For me, it's an easy choice. I would prefer to respond to a personal discussion, because I always find links between another person's experiences and my own. It's easier to give advice because you don't have to be an expert.
However, it's nice to be alerted of important topics too. I'm not good at posting those, so it's nice that someone on My Lot will. Keep up the good posts. You have found yourself a nice niche. Be well.
