Yes this is right. Grandpa Bob that does a LOT of gardening can't identify this plant/flower. It's not the first and probably won't be the last one either. I got this from my wifes boss a couple weeks ago. Now that it's flowered can someone/anyone tell me what this is called? It is very pretty and about 8 inches tall right now. Thanks in advance.

I will keep my eye out at the garden centers, because you have actually stumped me as far as the identity goes. Is it a woody shrub, or does it always stay tender? I will look around, like I said. That is a good picture and shows good detail of the little indent on the petals. Thanks for sharing with us.

I agree that both the flower and foliage look like impatiens, I just have never seen any in Yellow. That does not mean anything, though. If it is, you can root cuttings in water in the fall and have a houseplant if you want. There are such varieties of impatiens, I will almost bet on it.

Yeah it does look the same as far as the flower goes. The leaves are definitely different. I'm leaning towards another member of the primrose family. I'll check further soon. Thanks a bunch.

They look like large buttercups :P
I have no clue but I'll ask my parents when I get chance, they both have a strange habit of naming flowers of all sorts which is cool (don't get me wrong)..
The strange parts the fact I don't know how they know but they do lol (well mostly)
Goodluck finding out!

Leaves and flower shape all look like impatients to me but can't say I've ever seen them in yellow - usually pinks, white, purple. Very pretty though, send some my way :)

Try this link to the bhg.com plant finder guide. I tried it but don't have enough info on the plant... http://www.bhg.com/bhg/plantfinder/search/pfAdvanceSearchForm.jsp
Hope this helps, Grandpa Bob. It is a pretty flower. Post it here if you find out cause I would like a couple of them for my beds.

Ok. I spent the last hour surfing the net trying to find this flower. My first thought, and I still believe this to be true, is a hybrid impatiens. There are sooooo many varieties to choose from that I'm sure I could spend another hour going from site to site. I can definitely tell you this is not a primrose variety. The leaves texture is very rippled on the primrose. I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing you probably already know what an impatiens looks like, especially with that little tell tale "tail" on the flower. So, I don't know what to tell you. Let us know if you do find out.

Sorry, I don't know what it is, as I expect it's not native to Australia. It's very pretty though.
Now that we have had quite a bit if rain over the past few weeks, my garden is realy beginning to brighten up. My husband said I shouldn't put in any more plats until we get more rain.
Well, when I do the weekly food hoping tomorrow, I am taking his credit card, & will buy some plants too!

So I am taking it that the real brunt of that storm didn't hit you? But you did get some rain, that's a good deal. Was going to ask about this the other day when I saw the flooding and mudslides etc in the news.

Hi Bob. It's not an impatiens, wrong colour for a start and the end of the leaf is too pointed. Also, the bud is wrong for an impatiens. It's a robust little thing and very healthy looking and it's kind of familiar but I can't place it. If I had my "What Flower is That?" book it would be a cinch but it was stolen from me.
Good luck with it.

Just because you have a green thumb does not mean your thumb is also smart LOL.
I love to read books but I do not always remember the names of the people in the stories I am reading. So I can understand how you can plant you plants and not know what you are growing it sounds reasonable to me.

Hell I don't even admit to having a green
thumb let alone any brains. HAHAHAHA!!
We get plants from her bosses farm so that's
why we have no idea most times. he doesn't either.

Ah saw it! Pretty cheery delicate yellow petals. Initially it looked like a variant of pansy. but I suppose since so many have declared it to be inpatients (sorry can't spell) it must be so!
You're very fortunate to get these lovely blooms periodically!

Hi Grandpa Bob,
I've never seen anything like it before. It doesn't look familiar to me at all, from my childhood days, and all of the beautiful gardens etc. we had at home. It certainly is lovely, and such a vibrant shade of yellow. Hope this 'mystery' is solved soon for you. Have a great day.:)
