I am a strng believer that if I cannot resolve my problem someone else will not be able to...so, I have never ever been in therapy.
However, that is not what therapy is all about - many of us have fears, episodes and happenings in our lives that leave scared and we need to heal in order to move on; I beleive that therapy can help at times - what do you think?

To answer your topic question, yes, I have been to a psychiatrist. Did it help me? No. Why? I wouldn't open up and talk.
It's incredibly hard for me to open up and share past experiences with someone that I don't know, because I can't trust anyone just like that. I have extreme trust issues. The one person who helps me with all of that stuff is my significant other. He is the only person that I trust enough to talk about those things with, and he helps me immensely.

This is what I am worried about - going for therapy and not being able to open up to a stranger...
Thank you for sharing your experience Chryssi.

No, but i think that the psychologist can be very usefull if he is a good one. Most of us prefer to use as therapist their best friends and it`s free, but some problems are too serious to be solved without proffessional help. So there is nothing wrong to visit psychologist when we are in need.

Yes, I have been to therapy after my last marriage which was full of abuse in every manner possible...it negatively impacted every aspect of my life....I received therapy for this and my children also needed a bit of help recovering from the abuse that was directed at them and at me...it is very difficult for a child to understand and ultimately get through these types of things...and then not continue these bad habits....creating a full circle of abuse...i was very concerned....I was given the opportunity to receive mental health therapy for the whole family and I am so glad that I took advantage of it...I truly believe it helped all of us......

Yes, you are absolutely right Tina, children are marked the most about anything that happens during their childhood. My parents divorced when I was little and I have to say that even though my mother has been a fantastic mother and father the whole even has influanced and affected me.
My only worry is that I will not be able to open up with a therapist.
Thank you for sharing. You always come across to be as a very strong person who knows what she wants and goes for it. I am glad you found happiness, which you rightly deserve, with your present husband.
Best wishes and hugs,
Magdalena
