I agree right there. You have to be careful of the web site and also make sure your computer is safe. If its safe, then your ok.

My cards use a feature called "shop safe", where you can have the bank generate a temporary card number for an online purchase, with a low limit for the particular purchase you will be making, and set it to expire after the purchase. But, I have never (knock on wood) had any problems with using cards for online purchases, with and without "shop safe".

It always depends on where you use your card. If you use it only in those sites which are genuine like amazon, ebay, etc your card details will be safe and secure. But if you end up using your debit card in any sites you see, then you are asking for trouble. As said by the previous member here, always look for https:// in the browser address where you are lookng to use your debit card.
If you follow these guidelines you are always safe.

I suggest you pay via paypal for online transactions. my sis used to buy straight off sites with her debit card and ended up getting a really huge bills on purchases she didn't ever buy. lotsa hackers know how to steal credit card numbers online. so be careful. I purchase with paypal all the time and had no trouble since:)

I've never had any problems using mine, but I would be wary about using it. Make sure you only pay with your debit card at sites that you trust. Personally, I'd go through an intermediary like PayPal. The way I've got mine set up, my PayPal account is linked to my checking account. When I need to pay for something online, PayPal withdraws money from my checking account into my PayPal account, then from my PayPal account to the merchant itself. That way, the merchant never has actual access to my account details, and I don't have to worry about an untrustworthy merchant stealing my identity.

it depends on what site you use it at like amazon.com is a very good site ive never had any problems with them any big chain stores such as wal mart bestbuy and blockbuster.com are all good sites to use your credit card at never use it at a small site or a site youve never heard off cause there will be more rish if you use it.

Like everyone stated, make sure you see https:// in your address bar. That indicates that there is an SSL(secure socket layer) installed on that website. Which encrypts private information.
Although, if you are purchasing products on an unsecured wireless network be wary as there are people with malicious intent with packet sniffers that are able to find your user name and password rendering the https:// kind of ineffective.
