Today I got one of those credit offers in the mail, one of those that I always shred and throw away.
The interesting thing, or even funny thing, is that it came addressed to me in my former married name, the name I haven't had in almost ten years, and yet it had my new address on it.
Why? I don't use that name, haven't in years, I changed the name on my social security number years ago and my driver's licence and yet STILL I get things in the mail addressed to me in that name.
Can anybody explain this?

That is really odd. I have never gotten anything addressed to me in my maiden name. Do you check your credit on a regular basis? If not you may want to give a looksey just to be on the safe side. I dont want to scare you or anything, but strange things can happen especially if your former last name was a very common name. Now on the lighter side. My husband live with his grandparents while he was going to college. That was like 15 years ago he still gets mail over there. It is always junk mail, but his Grandpa will call and say you got mail and it says you only have 4 weeks to respond. LOL He's so funny he saves it all for him.

My credit was checked recently, and this has been something that has been going on for years, not something that just happened. And my former last name is not very common at all, so I don't think it's because of that, but it was my name for 16 years. I just think after ten years it would stop. I did have a credit card in my former married name, when I tried to change my name on it, they gave me a big hassle and lots of forms to fill out so I ended up just canceling it eventually, I sometimes think that has something to do with it even though after I remarried I never used it, it was still active.

Unfortunately I cannot explain this to you, but I can tell you the same type of thing happens to me. I will get mail in my current married name (the name I go by), my full married name (the name that is on my drivers license) and also in my maiden name. I have never lived at my current address as my maiden name. I will even get mail addressed to Mr. and Mrs (Maiden Name)!!!

Hi.
I can't explain that to you, and it has never happened to me but it happens a lot with my mother and I think the basic reason would be the correctness of the address. I mean as long as the address written on the envelop is a vald one the post department has to deliver it to the address.

I can't explain it, but. . .I have the same situation. My first name is Dawn, and there's a credit card company who CONSTANTLY sends me offers to DAEN Tolbert. I even go so frustrated once, I wrote a note to them and said, PLEASE take me off your mailing list, you aren't even spelling my name correctly!!" I know, pretty childish of me, but I get frustrated. Well, we've moved THREE times and I STILL get these offers addressed to DAEN.

I also occasionally get mail in my previous married name, which I have not had for almost 5 years.
The ones that amuse me more are the pieces of mail that we have been receiving lately. Apparently, the girl who typed in my information with the cable company misspelled my last name. Suddenly, I have been getting a ton of mail addressed to that specific misspelling. It just shows me how much the cable company sells people's addresses (and phone numbers, but that's a totally different discussion).

Perhaps they had your name in on of their databases, and now they send a mailing to those that never got updated. I'd rather be glad about, because it means that official databases lik Social Security, or the driver's register, are not available to private enterprises. At least, that's what I hope! :)
