For some time now, I have observed certain group of peoples, who work in concordance. They make a target, be it a person, a group or a religion and attack together. The immediate result would be that a poster who is against any of their held idea or belief gets slammed with tons of abuse, name calling, intolerance and hatred; His/her rating will drop sharply and another sure thing is that they will stalk that user everywhere.
Do you think that this is a normal, humane and mature behavior?
This post is not against any particular individual but a behavior. I know that my rating could do down but I really find this behavior immature and childish.
What are your views?

I think it's the natural order of thing for people of like mind and goals to form cliques. Often what rankles one, will rankle the others as well. I think it's the herd instinct.
There is a safety in numbers, and its safer to attack in numbers. While I think that this type of behavoir is deplorable I understand the reasoning (however misguided) behind it.
I have noticed a few groups of myNutions who bait people into their discussion and then pounce on them as a group for having a differing opinion.
These people obviously do it on purpose.
I think really that the above actions show both immaturity and low esteem. They build themselved up by tearing down others, or are even sadistic in nature. Meaning that they enjoy hurting others.
What irks me the most I think is that it is impossible to have an honest discussion with them about whatever the issue. They have a for-gone conclusion and just want others to agree or argue, nothing could change their mind.
Those discussions are exercises in futility and I try to avoid them as much as possible, unless they are polluting us with misinformation, or lies that need to be rebutted.
It is really is sad, from any perspective.

I agree with you about social theory behind flocking together, there's a saying, " Birds of same feather fly otgether" or something like that. I don't know whose quote is this but it's practically right.
So you started using myNutions! LOL. that's a new one filmbuff! I wonder, howmuch are there to come or will it continue like some superman series, almost never to end??
"what irks me the most I think is that it is impossible to have an honest discussion with them about whatever the issue"
I really liked your point, filmbuff:-) the whole discussion seems hijacked and no proper point seems coming.
I also try to avoid them, but I couldn't resist 2,3 times in the past.

Flocking together can be positive in many cases, I believe. Criticizing someone's negative action with positive intent and action can also be fruitful and I do support it. It's only when people use brute force, name calling, abusing and berating that I find it like a gang behavior. I have seen many people whose actions were dealt in such manner only to push that person farther away from coming to senses, thus failing the purpose. What's the use of an action that can't obtain it's purpose? No body is perfect among us, It's only by 'ready to lend a hand' intention and action that we can help each other in overcoming our shortcomings.
Excuse the Mylotians from nutting & butting, lol.

Yeah I have to admit that I've gotten into a few of those discussions myself, especially when I'm in a argumentative mood, or just wanted to rip someone apart who deserved it. Which while not being the nicest thing in the world to do, still has it's merrits in certain situations.
myNutters is good Trans, but it makes us all sound crazy (which is fitting) and kinda reminds me of the peanute buttery goodness that is Nutterbutters.

Did I notice it? Ha, ha, sure I did. Yes, I did lose my rating and my posts were deleted.
It happens during two days only during this week.
It is OK. I learned long time ago how to collect evidence.
Bullies particularly dislike people with high creativity, integrity and empathy. These are things that bullies completely lack. Most psycho bullies are serial bullies; they bully people in sequence, one at a time. Bullying is a very primitive instinct that should form no part of a humane and civilized society.
Bullies try to violate your personal space.
They try to drain energy out of you by constant belittling and nit-picking.
The expression energy vampire is very apt.
Most serial bullies are also serial attention-seekers. More than anything else they want attention.
It doesn't matter what type of attention they get, positive or negative, as long as they can provoke someone into paying them attention.
The Number One rule for dealing with this type of behavior is: don't respond and don't engage.
This is not as easy to do as it sounds.
The second rule is to keep all abusive posts.
Print it all. Post can be deleted, so print is your only evidence. When the time comes to take action, this folder of hate posts is your evidence.
Bullies, especially cyber bullies, are obsessive people and if their account is closed down you may start another account.

You seem to have very deep, thorough and interesting observations, polachicago!
I am really surprised as well as amused with all the interesting facts about these type of people and their behavior. I liked your expression of energy vampires. I agree to most of what you described about their behavior, psychology and ways. I personally havn't been attacked as such (only once or twice) but I see it all the time while I read a lot of discussion in different interests specially social, religious and political without necessarily participating in them. All You need is to just oppose them and lo and behold...:-) I experinced 12 points drop in my rating earlier, in just one day after I admonished their behavior in one of religious discussions.
Thank you very much for sharing these informations and responding:-)

Many of the members here have seen it and are frankly tired of it. I hate to stoop to their level, really I do but if nothing is done, it will only get worse. The power to harm needs to be removed from all of these 'gangs' on here and off!
My rating is also slowly falling. I was a 99/100 last week. Since I decided to speak my mind, It is down to a 96/100 last night. I really don't care to much about it though. Having a lower star often only means you speak your mind.
A little off topic, but I am having trouble adding you as a friend!LOL I will try again, but if I have not requested after I submit this please add me so I can accept. If you also have trouble, I think we should pm mylot to fix the glitch, as I have tried 4 times and keep getting a page saying it won't go through!LOL

I only find the behavior of these people not only unhealthy to this community but also to themselves, since hate and going after someone only causes guilt somewhere deep in one's heart.
I have only 1 point drop in my rating but it doesn't matter, as my only hope and wish is that people realize their negativity and come to an healthy attitude and if it costs 100 points I'll be happy:-)
It seems that adding problem is already resolved:-)
Thanks for sharing tammy!:-)

It was my understanding that verbal abuse, name calling, etc. were not permitted on myLot. Are these persons not reined in by the administrators/moderators?

I got to your topic here from your response to Tammyr's topic Bullies. I have to say I have seen this happening, and if I remember correctly there are more than one group doing that. But since I'm not here all the time, I can't tell the frequency and how many exactly on each group nor remember the names. I wonder though, why mylot doesn't do anything about that. I'm sure there are already reports about those behaving like that, but I haven't seen anything done by mylot. By the way don't worry about your rating, stars always go up and down, your post count can too.

Thanks for dropping by, LittleMel!
Yes there can be more groups, I have identified just two of them:-) I too wonder why Mylot don't take any action against those people as their flaming must have been reported by many people being so visibly abusive. Somebody suggested somewhere else that one of them is actually one of the moderators of this forum and hence he protects those people who are attached to him/her.
I am not really worried about my rating. I have experienced it once before when my rating went down 12 points. I'll be, what I am and will say what I think is right no matter how low my rating goes:-)
Thanks again for responding and your views, LittleMel:-)

I have actually noticed it because I read a lot of discussion in different interests specially social, religious and political without even sometimes participating in them. I have seen these people time and again with same behavior everywhere. All You need is to just oppose them and the game is on:-) I experinced 12 points drop in my rating earlier, in just one day after I admonished their behavior in one of religious discussions.
Thanks for your support LilyoftheThorns but I don't worry much about my rating, I'll say what I think is right. There is only 1 point drop since I started this discussion:-)
Thank you very much for responding:-)

I respect you opinion and agree to what you said that sharing of opinion doesn't make anybody a 'gang'. I have also explained this in one of my above responses to comments made and let me say it again:
"Flocking together can be positive in many cases, I believe. Criticizing someone's negative action with positive intent and action can also be fruitful and I do support it. It's only when people use brute force, name calling, abusing and berating that I find it like a gang behavior. What's the use of an action that can't obtain it's purpose? No body is perfect among us, It's only by 'ready to lend a hand' intention and action that we can help each other in overcoming our shortcomings".
I hope that my point should be clear now about what I think makes a group a 'gang'.
Thanks for sharing your views, revdauphinee!:-)

I have to admit I have missed it-- I mean I have seen some folks with some very strong opinions that are happy with the - button, but gangs? I'd have to see some examples to buy that one.
