My kids do get scared when the power goes out and it is dark at night. I do have candles and flashlight for when this happens. As They are things I need to have when a hurricane hits and the power goes out.

I don't have any small children .I do have a lot of candles and also several battery operated lights and also some oil lamps so i always have a way to light up the house in case we have an outage. The worst thing about the lights going out is it turns off the a/c and it gets hot.Even when the lights are working ,I always keep night lights on at night so we can see to go to the bathroom.I do not like to sleep in total darkness,i know a lot of people do but im not one of them...

My four year old son sleeps with a night light all night. On the occasions that there are power blackouts my son cries and gets very scared. We have a large torch for such emergencies that we leave on, but he still takes a bit to settle as he hates anything different. We live right next door to a fire station too, so if there is a storm and the power goes out then the odds are the alarm will also go off, and my son is terrified of this. My husband or I have to block his ears until it has stopped. If it is also dark cos of a power outage then this is ten times worse. I have to admit I also dislike the dark, but I act brave so as to show my son it is Okay.

My 2 yr old gets scared to loud thunderstorms. As far as power going out he has only experienced it for a brief moment and it didn't phase him. I am sure he would be scared if it stayed off for a long period of time, but I usually have candles and lanterns going to light the rooms up.
