how come ben was in charge??

during the show when juliette was flashed back there was a guy there to take her to the island.
when ben was young he was "rescued" by that same guy (sorry cant remember his name)
he was the one leading the revolution....so why was it that ben then became the leader??

I think (my theory here) that he was chosen by Jacob, because he could communicate with him, as well as people not on the island, like his mom. I also think he probably emerged as a leader because of his charisma and his conniving tendencies.

I have to agree with Ma_Belle. But I do want to add that the guy you mentioned is named Richard and I think that he's up to something behind Ben's back.

i am glad you named him for me ...i thought the post was a bit ambiguous without it ...lol
i am still not sure about this whole "jacob" thing...does anyone think this will become a real part of the plot or just another lost red herring???

I think it also has to with the fact that he led the purge. The others were on the island long before the Dharma people got there and were obviously having trouble with them. So here comes this kid with some special talent. And I'm guessing Ben probably orchastrated the whole purge. And because of that, became their 'hero' and their leader.

"jacob" does seem to be going away from the whole plotline
i really liked the ending of the last series but i felt very sad that they might get off the island...does anyone else feel that?
