Anne Rule is a great writer of true stores (Mostly) sloved crimes.

You might want to look at some historical novels. While they are fiction, they are based on history. It makes history more interesting, I think. Or go through the biography section to read about peoples histories.
Most library systems these days are on-line and you can search their collections digitally. Once you have the title or author that interests you then you can acquire the book however you wish. I find the library directory very helpful.
You can even access the directory of the Library of Congress on line! And, of course, there are the book sellers on line.
