Do you still rate a BLUE STAR holder positively?

Mylot is a community where each of us with 100 posts and more holds a colored star that represents our reputation in the community. While it is easy to rate the silver, brown, green, yellow, and red stars (did I miss anything?), even those who have no stars yet positively, for good posts, do you stop and think for a while if you will still rate the blue ones the same, or just skip it because anyways they have already reached the top? For me, I rate everybody equally regardless of star color if they really deserve it, because it helps a member to keep his/her rating or even increase it. Not everybody knows that any star which represents 1a certain number, still have different figures. So when you point to your star or right click on it, you will see the actual numbers you have, like 80/100, 97/100 and so forth. How about you? Do you still hit the + sign or just move on to the next post? Do share your thoughts.

I think I am the silliest guy here at myLot. I rate a plus for every discussion I responded to. I rate a plus for every response to my discussions. I rate a plus for every comment to my comments. And what do I get? People have been routinely giving me minuses so much so that I have lost my blue star for days. Sometimes, I wonder if I should start being nasty and make it a goal to give like 500 minuses a day just for fun. It's something worth thinking about. Sounds good really. It would be fun. ;-)

That was really sad to know my friend. There are just some people who might be envy with you or they take your discussions too personal. I'm not sure of their reasons for doing so but I don't think you deserve it. You're a nice person and you post well here. I'm sure some people want to drop you down. Be strong.

Hello jencai, someone even said recently that she avoided answering my discussions because I reply sarcastically to most of those who responded. I feel so maligned. I feel so accused.

Hello, steney, the color of the star will not affect me whether to rate them or not,in fact,i will rate all the members who reply to me positively,no matter they have a blue star or yellow star, even they get 100 rating,i will give them positive rating.I think we have to rate the replies positively so that the members who reply to you can get credits for their responses.

I think so too. Unless the post deserves a negative rating, which is very seldom, everyone needs positive credit for their posts. Thanks for sharing! :)

hi steney, i have always rated positive, whoever has responded and whenever i came across good posts. that's how it works for me everytime. i have never rated anyone negative as of now, however reported one user for his racial hate speeches. we may differ or agree on a post but that, by no means, should get a negative rating. i make sure not to do it. thanx, have a nice day.

Yes, I agree with you. Mylot has it in the guidelines that members should not rate others negatively just because it differs from their opinions. We should all respect our individuality and differences.

I rate everyone based on the actual quality and content of their posts. It doesn't really matter to me what color their star is, it only matters whether their response is polite, well-written, on-topic, and makes a contribution to the discussion. I guess for me it's simply a matter of integrity. I don't give people ratings they don't deserve, nor do I withhold ratings they deserve. It's not my style to judge people based on popularity.

Of course yes. Why not? I don't think it's right to think that way. We have to use the ratings system accordingly. I know for sure that there are some members who abuse it. I don't know exactly their reason for doing so. In my case, I just give + ratings to those who respond with my discussion and with a discussion I've responded with. I don't give - ratings unless it's maliscious in nature. And if I don't agree, I just leave the ratings blank. I'm encouraging everyone to please use our Rating System ACCORDINGLY, don't take it personal. Let's respect other people and their personal point of views.

That's where the problem starts, when members misuse and abuse the rating system. It becomes easy to get back at someone here by hitting the negative sign beside a member's name wherever the goes. But I believe mylot has devised a way to moderate this kind of abuse.

Yup. I just noticed yesterday my rating has gone down by 1 point. I don't know what I have done wrong, but it seems like I've offended someone? =(

I really hope that they have a moderator here. People use our rating system with their bad intentions for other members. It's not right.

I hadn't even noticed the stars when I started rating, but now that you have drawn my attention I will check next time, but I don't think that the star should make any difference, on the contrary it would suggest a more experienced user.

frankly speaking, i have my own rating system on mylot and i rarely refer to the color of the star appearing on the mylotter's name.... these stars can be misleading, not always though.... i try to read the responses/discussions posted by the user and only then decide the rating of that particular user.

That's a good point. Stars can often be misleading. It's always best to read posts in its entirety and then judge it after.

Hello steney. I don't particularly pay much attention to the star rating. I rate positive whatever the colors of the stars each poster have. It is an automatic gesture from me especially those who partake in my threads. I can't even remember the last time I rated a negative. If I saw a nonsensical response, I will simply leave it without rating it and move on to the next one.

I also rarely hit the negative sign. I think the only time I used it, was when I read a very offending post about somebody else. But for nonsense posts I just leave them unrated.

I rate all responses I read, regardless it is to my own discussions or to other's discussions. I rate as I read the responses. I do not see who is the person, neither do I see the rating. I feel that as long as the person take the time to respond, he should be giving a plus. I do give negative if I read the response as being defamatory in nature.

I don't even notice a star when I rate a discussion or comment. Something I read when I first joined gave me the idea that the ratings were supposed to be about whether or not a response or comment added to the discussion, rather than whether I agree with it. So almost every on-topic response I see gets a positive. Once in a while, I disagree with a comment so much that I won't rate it, even though it's topical. I never give a negative because I don't agree, in fact, I rarely give negatives at all, unless someone is rude or starts name-calling.

When I also disagree with a comment I just move on to the next and just forget about it. I find it hard to hit the negative button. I respect other members' opinions as much as I would want others to respect mine.

Hey steney , it does not matter to me what colour of star someone has , I rate them according to what they have written (usually a + unless thay are abusive, have copied someone else or have obviously not read the post!) The star we have , in my opinion any way, does not make any difference to what people think of what we write! xxx

I totally agree. Someone said here that stars are sometimes misleading and it's true. Others may be lower in star number but just as sensible, or even more sensible than the ones with a 10.

Everyone that responds to my discussions gets a + even if I disagree with their post, or it doesn't make sense to me. I only ever give a - if the poster has copied someone else's answer or even my original post. then I also report them. I give every discussion I respond to a + and every comment to my comment, if that makes sense..lol. I rarely look at the star rating. Only if I see something that makes me want to. Recently I saw a bunch of very immature threads with people accusing others of things. Turns out 2 of the 3 of them had 6 or lower stars and 1 had a 9 star. The one with the 9 was actually the most grown up of the 3. I was just looking to see what type of responses they have, etc. I always rate positively, unless something like I said with the immaturity or copying.

Good observation there misheleen. Sometimes its amusing to see those kinds of threads as it reveals different kinds of personalities. You rate sensibly and that's what everyone should be doing here. Not picking on someone and pulling the stars down deliberately.

i do not mind whether one has a blue star or any colors for as long as they give responses to my discussions. it is a privilege given by mylot to rate our fellow members in that way we could help them too in their star rating or their reputations. this community is where we share everything except of course for some personal details which mylot prohibits.

I rate everyone equally. In fact I rate every discussion/response/comment I read +. Unless of course they are spamming or something. But yeah I don't care about the star. It really doesn't mean much to me. I am a bit excited to see what level my star will be at once I read 100 points lol I guess it is a milestone to reach hehe Rated +.

I definitely do. The color of the star doesn't matter at all to me. If someone starts and interesting discussion I'll rank it a +, and if someone responds to one of my discussions with a well-thought out response I'll rank it a + as well. I try to be generous with the +'s in the hopes that people will return to the favor, regardless of the color. I ONLY downrate when people are spamming their referral links.

I rate everyone, even a new comer. Rating a discussion has nothing to do with blue star. But one thing is there...those who have blue star....must have some great qualities...that is why...they could achieve blue star. I rate everyone positive...in acknowledgement of his/her reply to my discussion/comment. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ rated. Good Post! deepak

Dear steney I always rate the members irrespecting of the star number he bears -- If their post is a quality post. I am usually in the habit of rating all the members who reply to my discussions .. I don't see their star number .. only their response is something what that matters to me. Yes I have seen that the reply from a 10 star is really great because -- the reason can be they are very much expereienced and they really know how to respond to a discussion in a well manner. Happy mylotting to you my dear friend :)

I am trigger happy with the plus button, I always hit it everytime there is a response to my post. It does not matter if the person does or does not have a star. As long as s/he took the time and effort to respond to my discussion, s/he gets a + from me:) I also rate positive some discussions that I respond to mainly because their discussion is unique or that I couldn't have posted it any better.

In my case I rate everyone positive who respond to my discussions or who comment on my responses. I don't actually look at the star the person has I just give them a positive and that is that. I never knew I can actually see the the figures for my star. I will try it now so I can know exactly know how much I have in the figures here at mylot.
