Putting coffee grinds around your plants

I have heard that if you spread used coffee grinds around your tomato plants or other vegetable/flower plants in your garden, you will keep the pests away. I am starting to do this, but don't know if this works or not. Does anyone have any insight or knowledge about this? I don't know if there is a chemical component in coffee that insects do not like. Maybe we can spread coffee grinds around our thoughts to keep out the ugly thoughts.

I have put a lot out recently, and have not noticed a bug problem. Maybe this really does work. I am thinking of buying containers of fresh coffee grounds and sprinkling them around roses, flowers and my vegetables, instead of just using used coffee grounds.

I haven't heard about this before but it sure sounds like a very interesting idea and something that I might like to try. Maybe it'll trun out to be a good way of keeping pests away without the use of nasty chemicals that might harm the environment. Do let us know what was the outcome of your experiment please. Thanks. :)

Im not sure if it works or not but we save and spread them als, another thing i heard was crushed egg shells keep slugs away because they dont like the sharp edges of the egg shells.

Hey I've never heard of that. What pests is it supposed to keep away? The one I've heard before was to spread moth balls. But I think that's more for big pests like deer and raccoons, they don't like the smell I guess. We are buying a property in the country that has some swampy areas at the back of the property. If I sprinkly coffee grounds in the watery areas back there will it keep mosquitos and black-flys from spawning?
