Too Spicy Food!

My wife cooks...well tries to cook dinner for me. She keeps making ti too spicy. Not on purpose, she just can't figure out what my "okay" level of spice is.
Not a big deal really because she eats most of the stuff and will cook something else for me. But there are the occasions when she made WAY too much to eat alone.
What can we add to food, like chili or what have you, to help tone down the spice? Does eating yogurt afterward really help?

I quite like spicy food.
There is a limit which is near "hot", I don't like anything hot because I don't enjoy the flavour so much but a nice balance and the food is yummy with spices.
I haven't tried eating yoghurt after but milkshakes I have.
