Why do guys suddenly become jealous?

My honey and i have been together for 5 years and within this 5 years we have a STRONG relationship. Both of us are not a jealous type person because we trust each other so much and also that is how much we know the love we have for each other.
However lately, he suddenly became the jealous type person, sometims he just tells me its a joke but then i know also that it is a HALF-MEANT Joke too. Therefore i ask you guys out there, why the sudden change? Why become jealous all of the sudden?
At first it was kind a sweet but there are times its unreasonable too? I wonder why? He said he cant live life without me. And i know that, however i tell him there is nothing to doubt too.
Help guys, tell me why? is this applicable to all guys too?

Sounds to me like something outside of this has got him down. For instance maybe he is having trouble at work. What exactly i couldnt tell you but he probably isnt ready to discuss it yet. So with his mind and likely worry on it as well he prolly is feeling needy. And worried that other things around him are going to snowball as well..now this is mostly going off my gut feeling. Anyhow i thought id give what help i can.
