What do you think - should someone not married put a ring there?

Wearing a ring on your 4th finger is just a tradition. It is a significance that has been accepted and passed down over the years.
That said, it is not some God-given rule cast in stone.
I have worn rings there before and I don't even have a girlfriend lol. It doesn't really matter in my opinion.
Just wear your ring wherever you like - or don't wear any ring at all! ;-)

I have to say I have been guilty of this when I was younger and used to go out clubbing, I got sick of being hastled so woudl wear two rings on my left hand marriage finger to deter men, but to be honest it did not work, nowadays I woudl say no that I woudl not and I am saving my finger until someone special takes my hand in marriage but I think each to their own though.

you know in todays society I dont see a problem with it. When I was younger and single I wouldent wear a ring there but if I was single today I would as long as it didnt look like a diamond.

I don't think it matters. I mean, if people are really confused by it they can always ask if you are married. Besides that, whose business is it whether you are married or not anyway?
I've worn rings on that finger before I got married. Of course now that I am married I wear my wedding rings there. For a while my wedding rings didn't fit, and I wore them on a chain around my neck. That didn't make me any less married!
I think people who become wrapped up in the smaller parts of traditions often lose sight of the larger parts of them.

I bought a silver ring for my right hand a couple of years ago when I went to Las Vegas. At the time, it didn't have a problem staying on there because my hands were slightly puffy from the 106 degree heat there. When I got back home tho, it constantly fell off my hand so I switched it to my ring finger on my left hand where it's been ever since. I'm not married so it's not like I was displacing another one.

Good for you :). You brought up a point though - your ring fingers on each hands are different sizes and your left is bigger. Curiousity question here - are you left handed? I've noticed my rings are looser on the left hand than right and I am right handed. Thanks.

I don't see any problem with it. After all they do call it your ring finger....lol I have always worn rings on that finger even before I was married. For some reason it feels funny to wear rings on my right hand fingers.

TO be honest I think people should put rings on any finger they want :)
I also heard that about never using a ring in that finger until we're married but I confess I did not pay attention. At least not much:)
For me a wedding ring is just that, a ring. So I don't make a big deal about it.
