Okay this is a stupid question, but this is my first cellphone. I bought it yesterday. I was told to charge the cellphone when I got home, but I forgot to ask the salesman if I should turn the cellphone on or can it be charged when it is off. So what is it? Thanks.

I charge mine off as well. I find that it does light up and say that it is charging and I usually charge it for a couple of hours to make sure.

You can charge your cell phone any way you want, on, off, or even while you are using it, as long as t is plugged into the wall. You should have got some kind of instructions with it that could have told you if I were you i would look in the box that it came in.

I asked the salesman, but he told me to have it charged as soon as I got home. He did not tell me whether it needed to be on or off. I found out that it was better to let it run off completely and recharge fully the first time. That was, because the battery ran out after three days. Now it can last four days.

With my phone, if it is fully charged it says so, when I plug it in. Otherwise it will start charging. I usually see if it is fully charged first, and if it is not, I turn it off, and leave it there for a couple of hours.

Once you have charged it once before it doesnt matter at all! But if this is the first time the battery is being charged it won't turn on anyways, therefore it'll have to be off! lol. But once your phone is charged you can wait until it turns itself off from lack of battery, I personally charge mine every night when I go to bed, then I know if I am out late the next day or something it will not die and people can get hold of me!

Thanks. I charge mine at least every three days to make sure. I have mine for emergencies and I have to find how many of my friends use the same provider as I do, for, well I am a cheapskate.

That seemed to be what it was for me. I plugged the cellphone in, we had to go someplace, and when we got back, it was fully charged.

No you don't have to. Once you plug it in you'll know that it'll start charging. Sometimes it lights up, sometimes you just see a charging icon. No point switching it on to charge since it wastes electricity whilst charging.
but if you don't ever switch off your phone as some do, then you can just plug it in when the battery wears down, without switching it off first. enjoy!

You should be able to do it either way but I would keep it off. Usually charges better when it is off. Did he also tell you that you need to dump the charge after? After you completely charge it, run it out until there is no battery life left (it will turn off) and then charge it again. They say it will help the battery stay charged better. If all else fails, read the manual =)

I really should do it. I have not given out my number out to anyone, so should be okay. Thanks.

hi suspenseful. i see that this discussion of yours are 3months old. so how do you charge your cellphone now? before i used to turn it off while charging. but then in the long run, i stopped doing that habit coz i think it matters a little. and i was a 100% texter so i cant afford to miss a text while it is charging. LOL

I don't turn off my cell phone while charging. This can be done only in a hurry when you don't want to charge it for long time. When I purchase a new cellular phone, I charge it switched off. I also take care that I charge the cell phone when the battery is low. This increases the battery life.

I have to turn it partly on so the Charge screen appears. Thanks.
