i did something horrible to my dog!

what i did today left me on my knees begging for my dog's forgiveness. he was starting to smell, and so i decided that i needed to give him a bath. i started t prepare his things, his chain, his soap, the water hose, until i saw him crouching under the car again, looking at me suspiciously. so i immediately placed the collar and chain on him so that i'd just yank him out later. well, the yanking part proved a bit difficult. he was growling and barking at me, and i kept yanking at him, until i heard him cry out, like he was hurt. i felt so guilty, being so determined to give my dog a bath that i forgot to be careful about not hurting him. now i think he's no longer talking to me, won't even look at me. my sorries fell on deaf ears. i have a lo of apologizing to do!

He will forgive you, they dont keep grudges. But just remember that you should never yank on the chain or collar, its on their neck and can cause a lot of damage.

Just remember that nothing is that important, that it would end up with the dog getting hurt. Its sounds like you are so sorry and wished that you had not done it. It will be ok.

That's quite a harsh thing to do. Do you do this all the time you bathe him? Try discovering some other way to get him to follow you to his bathing area. Or maybe you can give him a reward every time he takes his bath. I know dogs don't want to have their baths but we have to find a gentle way to get them. The best thing though is to train them to have baths while they're still young and you have to be consistent so they will feel that it's natural. I have quite a difficult time getting my dog to take a bath but I can easily carry my dog since she's not that heavy. Well, that thing already happened, we have to move on. Just give your dog a peace offering he'll be happy about...and all will be back to normal.

i kept giving him biscuits so that he'll come out from the under the car but he wouldn't go far enough for me to tie his chain to the pole. no, i don't yank his chain everytime i bathe him...most times i carry him to the bath area. but this time i used the chain because he was already under the car :( anyway, he's starting to come near me now. i hope he's forgiven me.

Ah teleios - it will be all right. He may be madf a t you now but only for a short time. DOgs love their owners and he will know that you didn't hurt him intentionally. He will forgive you! Show him alittle extra special love and attention to help him get over it. I love my dogs as I they were my babies - actually they are my furbabies - so I understand how you feel.

oh. what a conincidence. my mom also tried to give my puppy a bath. and she hid herself under a table. she would not go out even if mom gives her some food to eat. she loves to eat. but she is clever to know if she's gonna be given a bath. but after three hours, she's okey. and eating. i guess we will have to give her a bath tomorrow. as for your dog, i hope she spends time with you later. just give her time. she'll be fine... anne

It's going to be alright, he's just a little mad for the moment. Mines get that way everytime I want to bath her or if I do't want her laing undering me. But she always manage to come back for some live and to give me love. So your buddy is going to return the love don't worry. Keep your head up.

He is upset with you right now. He will get over it they always do. Dogs are one of the truest bluest friend a person can have. Their loyalty is known far and wide. You just didn't think when you were trying to get him out from under the car. Your dog knows that you did not mean to hurt him. But next time when you want to give him a bath find a way of softly getting him to come out. Always remember that honey gets more bees than vineagar. Even with a dog.

It will be OK, he still loves you! You didn't mean him harm, he knows that! Have you ever tried using a harness that goes around his shoulders and chest instead of his neck? My big dog was very willful when he was young, and we were afraid to hurt his neck when he started pulling hard, so we got a harness. It gives a lot better control over the dog, too. Do you use a garden hose, or does it connect to your sink? When we were growing up, my Mom always washed the dogs with the garden hose, it wasn't until I moved away from home that I realised the dogs didn't like the bath with cold water. Now I have one of those "doggie shower" hoses that I can feed out my window and give them a nice warm bath. They still hate it, but they don't resist as much. Isn't it funny, how dogs think of things? My dog will break ice to go swimming in the creek, but he whines like a little puppy over a bath. Go figure!

I know it is frustrating, especially when the dog knows what you are getting ready for, and they go and hide where they think they can't be made to take a bath. But, I am sure that he knows how sorry you are for pulling on the chain. Maybe next time you could try coaxing him out with a treat? Or set the stuff up where he can't see what you are doing before you get him. Good luck next time!

It's an animals natural instinct to try and hold their ground when being yanked if they're not used to it. Next time, propel the dog from behind, with just the pressure of a stick or something he'll be less resistant. The dog will come around again, just give him time.

well.. its ok. we all make mistakes.. :) it was unintentional on your part, but make sure it doesnt happen again! this problem is faced by all dog owners.. no dog like a bath... lol neither does mine.. what i generally do is.. i make him sit in the lawn or somewhere in the open.. play with him and make him relax. i keep a bucket full of water near him. when he is relaxed n he is sitting.. i quietly go behind him and put that bucket of water on him.. lol its mean though.. but its fun to see him go crazy. then i catch him n put on his shampoo n wash him off after that!

Awwww, I'm sure in time he will forgive you. Pets don't hold grudges ... though you'd never think so to see the way my Cat carries on sometimes! He just was a little hurt, you didn't do any serious damage and once he's gotten over it, you'll be friends again. I think next time it might be an idea to have him in the house so you can put his chain on inside, and then carry him to the bathing area outside. That way, you won't have to struggle to bathe him, and he won't get hurt in the process.

I am sure that your dog will forgive and although it is possible that you did hurt him, if you read up on dog behavior, they will yelp and fake injury sometimes while playing with other puppies as a method of trying to win the game. It is possible that you dog saw that you were going to win the fight and used yelping and makeing you feel bad to get out of the bath. My dog once faked illness making wierd noises and shaking as I was about to leae for work, I stayed home from work and took her to the vet, who determined that she was just putting on a show to manipulate me into staying home, because she misses me when I am gone, and that dogs will do stuff like that sometimes.

dont worry, he will understand and forgive you later. Every dog has his own feeling just like man does. Give him more time. Last night, my dog did something wrong to my father then, my mother blamed him severely. During the night, he shrinked himself to a corner without playing with us as before. But we all know that he wil recover and understand what has happened and what should he react next time.
