do you agree with the "5-second"/"10-second" rule?

since i was young, i have observed that when people drop their food, they immediately pick it up and say, "this food is still fine/clean/edible" then you see them just blow-off the dust or remove the dirt with their fingers..then they put it into their mouths and say "5-second rule!" or "10-second rule!"
personally, i think that even if we're talking about 5 seconds or 1 second, unless it we dropped it on our plate, food off the ground is NOT safe to eat.
what do you think?

I usually go along with the 5 second rule. There are a few things that I won't mess with if they fall out of plate or hand. I guess it'll depend on where it falls too. If I'm outside and something falls on the ground you can forget it. I'm not touching it, lol.

I actually agree with you too. I am always telling my son never to pick up food ever if it drops on the floor as you never know what germs are there. I use to when i was younger picking up my food if I dropped it but now I don't.

By the way, did you do the same when you were young? I did so, even sometimes now, if I don't think it is made dirty. I mean, it depends on the food. If it is dry food, then there should be no problem to pick it up and wash it under clean running water. It is still edible.
