Many of you respnded to my discussion on a woman calling my son chubby. Is it me or are people you don't even know getting too close to your children? I just went to a hardware store by my house. This woman that works there came over to tell me her son is the same age, 5 months. She played with him a little, which is fine. But then she decided to kiss him on the forehead!! I was shocked that this woman did this that I didn't even say anything, I just walked away. As soon as I got out of the store, I wiped his forehead off. I don't know where her mouth has been, or if she is sick. I don't want someone else's germs all over my baby. Yuck!

I'm the same way with my littlest, especially since he's the first from my body. I'm in Texas, and I guess it's a cultural thing to touch babies, which I can respect, but not when it's everytime I go out. My son is a beautiful boy and has bright blue eyes, yet is darker than I am, so most people ask to touch his eyes for luck. Sometimes I say yes, if they appear clean, but I've had people just randomly come up and touch him. Those are the ones I either cuss out or punch, depending on the situation. No one has the right to touch my child without permission, I don't care who you are.
Blessed Be

I've never heard of touching babies eyes for luck. I'd also be against that. I personally think anything on a babies face or hands should be off limits. Since everything on him always ends up in his mouth anyway, I prefer people not to touch his skin at all unless I know them.

That would also bother me. but i also think it was done spontaneously. i just made a point to let no one hold my baby, other than me and very close family. i also requested that she may get no kisses on the mouth, but some of the elder family didnt take to that. my sister is a nurse with a post grad degree and she always warned me that almost all sexually transmitted deseases were transfered via the mouth as well. except for crabs. i just cant imagine her getting anything unwanted in a seemingly innocent way. better safe than sorry.

I was so thrown off because the baby was in his stroller. She was on the phone with a customer and leans over to kiss him. I didn't even think of STDs, I was just thinking of germs from colds and things. I even get annoyed when my son's grandparents kiss him too much, so you can imagine how mad I was at this woman. Thanks

I don't think she meant any harm by it, but your right, you don't know where her mouth has been or if she has been sick recently or currently. people just don't think when they see a cute little baby and they just want to oogle and love on him/her. Don't be too hard on her, but just try to keep your distance from this overly enthusiastic woman in the future!

I know she didn't mean any harm, but it is the point that you shouldn't kiss someone's child. Thanks for the comment

I barely let others hold my five month old, let alone touch him. I took him in for his four month check-up last month and as I was leaning in to kiss his hand, some random woman came RIGHT IN BETWEEN US and touched his face! Didn't even acknowledge me, didn't look at me or anything, just wriggled her way between us to get to MY child. I literally had to draw my hand back - I had raised it to hit her. I went off on her. I was so upset, I nearly started crying... no one touches my child without my permission.
