The first time I was hooked up was in 2004 but my brother had a computer which had dial up access for a few years before that.
I still remember the sites which kept me entertained, most was online forums and chat rooms.
Most of those aren't around now and It's been fun seeing how web development as progressed. When did you first get internet access and can you recall the sites you browsed?

It was more than a decade back for me. Guess I am a bit luckier than you in this aspect.
It was a slow dialup connection then - 33.6 I think. With a 486 computer.
Don't think I did much surfing then. I busted my internet account chatting in IRC chatrooms. :P

I forget where it was I used to chat.
Maybe lycos? I think it was them who had that large networking of chat rooms and groups much bigger than myspace.
I also used to chat on IRC servers. (Mainly when bored)

It was in the year 1998 that I got my first internet Connection. Things were so different those days and it took more than 5 minutes for some web pages to load. So troublesome , but still so much fun. I was a newbie to internet then, so was struggling all along the internet, without knowing what to do next.
But now, Just cant imagine the growth of Internet and the Bandwidths. Great stuffs.!

Makes you wonder why people can't wait more than 10 seconds these days huh?
When we had dial it wasn't all that slow, except on sites which was built using php or other large scripts. still I learned to hate it and ever since then I've been on broadband. :)
Kudos!

Hey!
Awesome..
I don't think anyone who's used it and does it often would ever think of going back.
It's open staying in contact with long distance family so much easier. Thanks for your response :)

I hadn't even owned a computer till 1991 the year I sobered up. I was working for a computer manufacturing company. The made custom made computers mostly for Government agencies. Police departments, States, City's and scholls and the like. But I found out as an employee we got a 50% discount on a custom made computer so I decided to get my very first "comp". I got the internet the very same day. So I have been online with AOL the whole time since 1991. I've never had nor thought about switching ISP either. I love my AOL I guess. I do wish I had broadband or a faster server is all. But that's not in the books right now cost wise.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

In 1999 when I joined a new office, they had Internet access. But I did not have it at home. Then one day the modem of one of the office computers broke. I took it home and manged to install it in my computer. That was in late 1999 and my first experience with Internet at home. We had a prepaid Internet card system and I used that. But in December 2006, I got my ADSL connection with 24 hour Internet access for only $25.

I think I stared knowing internet from 2000. In the years 2001 to 2003, I did lot of chatting and falling in love and breaking of hearts and all that stuff like many others but later on by 2004 I realsied that all internet relations and chatting etc were our immatured behaviour as internet was something new and I realsied that I have been wasting my time . Now I am completly out of that internet craze. I join decent sites like mylot , yahoo answers etc and read health , movies articles........or even music. My craze now is to look for some site where I can earn some good money.....But good that you started this discussion. I see today from 2000 to 2007 how internet helped me to understand this world and grow more matured and sensible. Today when I think about my past behaviours...I feel ambarrassed.........lol

If somebody got a email those days he will have a great reputation among us.
These years internet has become a great phenomenon

it was around 1996 when i bought my personal computer and had it connected to a dial up access that i was able to communicate with my friends here and abroad thru emails. i knew about yahoo and hotmail sites because these were the most popular email services that time. i was also into chatting using yahoo messenger and icq all the time. other websites i used to visit were geocities, cnn news, local newspaper sites, and adult sites (just out of curiosity because i heard people talking about them)LOL.

The first time had access to the internet was in 1996. At that time it was all console based and not Graphical user interface. To view pictures I had to download them using links and then view them. Internet has come a long way since then....Some of the earliest sites I visites were Microsoft, yahoo and lycos.

Hi joey_mathews!
The first time I had access to the internet was when I was a high school sophomore. We didn't have a PC at home, and we only had one internet cafe in the whole city then, so one day, a friend and I decided to find out what all the hullabaloo was, so we went to that internet cafe. We didn't know jack! We didn't even know where to put the URL in, LOL. We just asked help from the attendant and viola! We were hooked! I've been an internet junkie ever since.

i accessed the internet about 1999, the first site was a chatting room..and i don't even know how to chat that time...hmmm...as i remebered mIRc...then ICQ...and then i started having lots of email addresses...from yahoo, hotmail, lovemail and many more, i cant recall some of them anymore...after few month i lost some of the e-mails i've made cause i cant open them up anymore...i forgot the password:(
and i became addictive on chatting...i chat anybody in the chatroom...except with those h*rny men...i simply turned them down...
when im stress out from school...i used internet as outlet...
I remember staying overnight during friday night just to chat...hehehe chat addict...=P
But that how is it...
I become a member of some websites...receiving newletters...
now i only use YM to chat with my friends only...
and even play online games...
so much improvement...for a cetain time....
