Jimi was more creative, but in an "I've done way too much acid" kinda way. He had some hellacious talent though. I'll never forget seeing a Ready Steady Go clip where he did a cover of Sgt Peppers the week it came out. Amazing fingers.
Steve Vai seems to be more musically talented inside, not just in the fingers. His range of things from Amazing Grace to backing up Whitesnake to the soundtrack of PCU to what ever... I think he's the superior composer as well as being a helluva guitar player. It also helps that he's still alive and can still develop.
Zakk is cool, as was Stevie Ray Vaugn... I must admit, based on playing style alone, that I really really liked Randy Rhodes. I still listen to Tribute and the version of Crazy Train on there. Or the studio copy of Over the Mountain, or Flying High Again.
Alex Lifeson is pretty cool, but always gets forgotten as being the "guy who Plays with Neal Peart and Geddy Lee." Not a super guitarist, but a fun listen.
