Childhood Memories: How far can you remember?

Ever wondered what's the earliest thing that you can remember in your life? Does we lose our memory with the passage of time? It's scientifically known that impossible memory is the memory of infancy (from the age of 0 to 2 years). I feel that I remember things from when I was about 3 years old, especially that I was not in my country, so I do remember certain things about the country that I was in by that age (which was Iraq BTW). However, the most certain things that I remember are those that happened from the age of 5, and the first day I went to school. Ironically, I can't remember some things that happened last month or even later. It is the importance of the incidence that makes it carved in our memories, but the question is how long?

I can remember snapshots of my mother spoon feeding me cereals, seeing father working or fixing something, going to grand mom’s house etc. But the earliest complete event that I can remember is when I was 3 years and some months and my mother took me to admit in a kindergarten. I remember many details of that day's activity specially the admission activity. I can exactly recall where my mother took me first. It was an afternoon. The other lady was wearing a red chemise with a customary cover on her head and body. I even remember some of their dialogue. I remember my mother saying that the fees are slightly higher. Then I remember seeing different toys there and getting me interested. I know they couldn't settle and my mother took me to another place. Now I know even the name of this place as I remained there for 5 years :-). I can recall with a considerable detail, my first day at school, and two days after I was admitted. The tutor was very nice; she took me in his arms and let me sit on table beside her. She offered me sweets as I was crying. After some time she let me return home. But because of that lady's kind behavior, I soon got settled there. After that I remember many things in my life. But like you said, I too sometimes forget things as late as yesterday but I am usually considered having an extra ordinary memory by my family and friends. So either their criterion is very lose :-) LOL or I may be having more than average memory. I know that I forget things and this has become a more serious problem in last year, may be because of change in my priorities.

I can remember little things starting from when I was about 3. Not a whole lot though, just little things here and there. Like sitting in the car with my family going around Scotland (remember that very clearly plus that I was wearing a cardigan) and some other things.

I also do remember sitting in the car with my family. Some particular incidents persist within my memory due to specefic reasons, and yes it is just little things here and there. But when I group them together, it becomes like the highlights of my childhood. Thank you for the response.

Yes, it's all like sanpshots, but there are certain incidents that I can remember exactly like they were happening right now. Thank you for the response.

I remember stuff from when I was 10 months. I suppose when you are young, its easier to have memories embedded. At an older age it gets harder.

10 months?! Are you sure? I've heared that we can't remember anything before being 2 years old because of the incomplete development of our brains! Anyway, thank you for the response.
