I have a large area of ivy in my backyard that weeds like to try to overrun. But I go out there and try to make sure that the weeds do not kill off my ivy and other plants that I DO want. However, I fear going back in there now because there is now growing a weed that I and my daughter are allergic to.
It causes hives, itching, and burns like crazy! It is not poison ivy or anything like that.
I have tried to search online for different types of weeds that would help me to ID this...but no such luck.
If it helps anyone, it is very spiny and prickly in feeling also. When it touches your skin, it will literally attach to your skin with its little tiny pokey spines.
Any clue what this weed is?
I have other pictures if you would like to see a different view.
I am just needing to know what we are allergic to.
Thanks in advance for any help that anyone could offer.

Does this weed have stickers and is sticky to touch, like with gloves on?? Have you tried to pull it? is it tuff in the ground or easily to uproot, I think we might have these growing in our yard too ... we have so many that it is easily to identify unfortunately ;)

They are actually fairly easy to pull. And yes, it sticks to my glovers too. But not as bad as to my skin. Even when I am wearing gloves, it it smacks my legs or goes just beyond the glove, I will break out in hives.
But they are only growing my my ivy area. :(
What are your weeds called?
I'll look that up and see if it is the same thing as mine. :)

Oh .. you want a name? well I call them the sticky weeds and I pull them by the roots and then we sprayed the weed and feed on them and it killed the rest of them. I think the weed and feed is by Scotts you might try it, it has done wonders to our yard and only after one application. And just so you know we have 1/2 acre of land so one bottle did our whole back yard

I thought weed and feed was just for grassy areas.
Can they be used for garden areas that have other plants?
Sticky weed...ha ha Velcro weed seems like a better name for mine. ha ha

Here's a link to a pest identifying site with pictures:
http://www.nps.gov/invspcurr/alienbiblio.htm
I had a problem with some kind of weed that looked like a helicopter blade, and before I knew it, I touched the dang stuff out of curiosity... you guessed it... it was toxic as all get out to humans and plants alike... where the heck did it come from?
I don't know but I had a Bunsen Burner and an "Atitude"... No more of it in my yard, but I've seen it spreading thru the neighborhood.
Good luck, and I hope the site helps you! :)

That's definitely the stuff... it will basically choke off plants and overtake your whole garden... it's irritating as hell, so don't get it anywhere near your face... complete irradication of the plant is neccessary, possibly by burning the plant and using a weed killer on the roots... this thing will flower in about 2 weeks and create a million seeds that are spread by the wind... and by clinging to you and your clothing.

There is a site that might help you with this. I think we had this one too though not much when I had the property. We enjoyed it attaching itself to our clothing kind of like velcro. Anway, good luck with this situation. Nice to see you around again.

Velcro is an excellent way of describing how it attaches! ha ha
Thanks! I'll check out that website to see if they have anything like what I have.
And thank you for noticing I haven't been around much. But I am trying to get back and things under control here on the home front. :)

don't know what the name of it is but I have that in my garden here in Ireland, too. I hate it because it sort of weaves through things and it produces these sticky little burr balls that get stuck in my dog's fur. I don't think I'm allergic to it because I've never had any of those reactions. Good luck getting rid of it. I find it self seeds itself easily, but is easy to pull out and doesn't spread by runners or anything like that.

Yeah, those burr balls carry the seeds... oddly this weed produces a fragrant flower but don't be fooled, it's the Terminator in sheep's clothing! LOL!

I can't tell from the picture. It looks like a purple thistle, then again it looks like roadside hemp. It could be a number of plants, I would have to see it in person.
Peace! Totty

Cleavers: Galium aparine. Quite easy to pull out. I find it comes back each year to varying degrees. Not a really bad weed imho.

Hi pls go for a weedicide spray. ask for a weedicide that is selective , systemic in action and acts on dicot weeds.
Just make a spray. I dont know the trade name in which you get at your place. but the above specifiction can keep your weed under control.
While spraying take care that it doesn't spill on your ivy.
Before that try spraying detergent solutions regularly . because i have tried to eradicate parthenium using detergent solution and not weedicide and got good resul out of it.
