I know a couple people who flip out if the playdough gets mixed together. I really could care less if they have oen big ball of brown playdough. It is theirs to play and experiment with.

I remember when I was a little kid I did care. Now I don't see why I cared as much. I remember picking it a apart and sorting the colors out if I had made something with 2 colors. I'm weird like that though. LOL

Funny how our priorities change as we get older.

If all I needed to worry about now was playdough-- I'd be lucky! Wouldn't that be nice?

LOL, half the time, I'm the one mixing the colors. We just pick out a lot of the little jars from a dollar store or something and go to town with it. Sometimes we just make our own, especially when I'm pinching pennies or he wants to help me "cook". Blessed Be

Yeah, I tell my kids I had them just to play with their toys, lol. I figure I'm still 20, so I don't have to grow up for a long while. The best form of teaching is through play, right? My oldest were building walk-in castles out of boxes by the time they were 3. I love it. Blessed Be

That is great how you are getting in on the action too. I bet they love how involved you are :)

Now I will admit that when first child was young I was neurotic and worried about the mixing of playdough colors! As I had three more children and became older, I found that I had bigger fish to fry! So my next three children had the mixed playdough...and guess what, they turned out just fine!! Ha! As the poster above suggested, perhaps we should designate one day a week as the day to worry about playdough. HeHe. I really think that therapists should take this approach when counseling people. Heck, why go to a therapist at all, just read this thread and save yourself hundreds of dollars! Ha!

I hope these are not adults that you are talking about. If kids are going to build things with play-doh, the colors will get mixed up. Go to whatever store and buy the giant containers of Play doh. Use the smaller containers and dole out the play-doh from the big container to the smaller containers. It is cheaper this way, less trips to the store and there is always a chance of pure colors to be around if the 'big kids' want to play.

Yes, 2 adults and I just think...ocd. I figure it isn't always the color it is the shapes and other things they make out of it.

It is fine. This help them to know if a color mix with another, they will get a new color. Ex, they mix the yellow and blue, the result will be green. They are so excited and start mixing the 3 primary color I given them. In a matter of fact, they learn from mixing.

My son got a playdough factory yesterday with some of his birthday money and it came with yellow and blue. At first he said he didn't want to mix it but today it is a lovely shade of green, his favorite color. I think they do learn a lot from playdough.

I dont really care if the play dough my son plays with gets mixed together. I mean I figure hes just making new colors or at least trying to. The only thing that frustrates me, is he will mix the colors, and then he will get mad at me because he no longer has "yellow" or "green" lol. Its funny but I dont really like going to walmart every few days because he mixed his colors of the play dough and is not happy of his out come. He seems to think that if he can mix them he can take them apart, and he will have the other colors back. And when he doesnt, he wnats new playdough. I have decided to just buy all the different colors that they have, and let him play with them. And he knows that he will not get new ones for awhile. lol.

Silly about your son wanting to take the colors back apart. Playdough is cheap enough but it does dry up pretty quick if the lid isn't on it so I normally just buy a few at a time. By the time it is all mixed it is dry too.
