As a Christian, I believe I need to understand other people, which involves understanding their religion. I don't believe you can seperate religion from politics, or vice versa. Both are vitally important to the world these days. Please, explain the basics of your religion for me so I can understand, and I'll do the same for you if you want.

This is a nice discussion. I don't follow a particular religion but I try to believe in them all. So my beliefs are very hard to explain, but I should start to tell you that I come from a cuban background, and I like the religions originated in Africa. Usually they are monotheistic (contrary to what is usually said). There is a God over all which is abstract and far from us, and then there are semi-gods or natural forces that come near us for helping or for an easier communication with God. In Cuba, thoose are synchretized with the christian saints and angels, and actually you can realize their function is the same. Enough information to start with? if you want more tell me =).

Hi, Just a general comment. I believe that religion, has been a restrictive force in the human world, seperating people from people. I was raised Jewish, I married a girl who was raised Catholic, does that make our son either or neither. To me, he is a child of the Earth, just as you and I are. As The Jungle Book should remind us "We are of ONE BLOOD"!!
The Earth is the only domain, Heaven and Hell are of the mind, choose your destiny wisely.

I agree with DJ9020. The parable of the good Samaritan teach christians to accept others from other beliefs and cultures, respect and love them. Similar teachings are found in all religions, so religions should put us together intead of being restrictive. Thanks for sharing you example! I also believe in Mother Earth.

Yes, it is. And that's why I think it is so important for us to understand each other's religions. Not to say any one religion is right, but this is what I believe, and you have the right to believe what you want to. As Christians, we are charged with bringing Jesus's message to everyone, but we don't have to beat them over the head with it! I believe that if I share my faith with someone, it is up to them to accept it or reject it. And if they reject it, I still have to respect their right to believe in their own religion.
