I have that wonderful Cold that has been making it's rounds for a couple of months now, and feel miserable. I even had to take the day off work yesterday, and went and seen a Dr. and got an Antibiotic. Problem is for me it acted like Allergies a couple of weeks ago, and now it is a Dry Cough, and I feel drained, and cough like Crazy.
What I am wondering is how many others here have had this Cold this yr. and what have you found that works best for you?

colds are really very difficult to have. shaking them off us takes so much time, too. aside from the ginger concoction, there is another proven herbal cure. cut 2 bulbs of regular onion in rings. boil this in 2 glasses of water. once it is well done, remove from the fire and pour into a glass. add sugar (honey is more advisable) and lemon juice. drink the concoction warm. you will cough out the phelgm much easier. you can drink this concoction as much as three times a day. give yourself a treat at the massage parlor. your body needs it very badly right now.

Oh I hate colds!!! I'm sorry you're feeling so yucky. Whenever I have a really bad cold, what usually works pretty well for me is if I just take a ton of vitamin C pills throughout the day, and then I drink as much orange juice as I can possibly get down. lol It's not always pleasant cause then I feel like I'm just sloshing around full of juice all day, lol, but then the next day I feel SO much better and it really seems to flush the cold out of my system really well.

Well, Vitamin C is a good one for when you get Colds that is for sure. I am Diabetic so Orange Juice is not the best since I spike so bad from it... but I did drink some Orange Juice the couple days I felt the worst.

Cold are very miserable but the strange thing is that I do not get colds that often. I get iillnesses much worse than that like strept, sinus infections or other things. Colds can be annoying and interfere with things that you are doing at home or at work. Everyone at my work hates it when someone comes in with a cold and then others end up getting it. When the weather constantly changes, it is easy to get a cold. I am sorry that you have a cold and hope that you will be feeling better soon.

Yes, it is going around at work like Crazy, and the problem is that no one can afford to stay at home, and when you work in close quarters it makes it even harder. Thanks for the well wishes.

I hope you do feel better. I just got over my cold a week ago. And like you I felt terrible. I didnt take anything for it. I just let it ride its way out of me. I did use the nose strips at night so I could breathe. Drink plenty of hot fluids. That does help alot. And get plenty of rest. And feel better.

There are a lot of cold viruses going around here too.
I very rarely pick them up as I have a strong immune system.
My daughter had a headache & sore throat this morning, so I kept her home from school. It is better to rest in the early stages, rather than let it get worse.
For me, my way of preventing the cold virus to to eat lots of vegeatables & salad.
For my daughter, she has a mulitvitamin & iron tablets every day. Plus I make her fruite & sald nearly every day. At the first sign of a virus, she must have an echinacea lonzenge, & maybe panadol.

Echinachea is a Great add on when someone starts feeling a Cold come on. I have been doing this one for sometime now, but with this Cold this time, I needed something more to help me. I am starting to feel a little better since seeing the Doctor and getting some Antibiotics which is Good.

I used to drink certain juices as a kid.
When I had them it made me feel better but to treat the cold I'd just stick it out. Kudos!~Joey

Of all the mysteries of life, common cold is one for which no doctor in the world can give permanent treatment. Probably it goes by the body constitution. There are people in India who get cold even during the summer. several of my family members are suffering from cold. There are several pundits here who give ayurvedic medicine to get rid of the cold. Where there is a throat problem, my wife uses some decoction made of some plant roots. I could see within couple of hours, the throat problem is solved. These roots are from nature and has no side effect unlike our modern medicines.

I am actually feeling pretty good this year. Colds make you feel miserable because they fight your immune system which means the lower your white blood count..Anything that attacks your blood is going to make you feel weak..If you would load up on a good vitamin supplement daily ..you might be able to avoid the visits to the doctors and the extra prescription costs.

I don't think I've gotten any colds this year. . .yet. I know I'll get them because I work with the public. I don't know why they have to make me feel so bad and not kill me. It's just an annoyance. But, I'd bet that colds used to be killers a million years ago until we developed some kind of immunity against them.

I agree with you. There have been many times when I feel like when I get a Cold, it is going to kill me. Just have been lucky enough to get Antibiotics for it when it first starts bugging me so I have not had to miss as much work as some people I work with have.

colds that run for two months has something more to it. take a lot of water. if you can have at least 3 liters of daily consumption, that will be sufficient. take plenty of fruit juices and fruits. watermelons will greatly relieve you of the illness.
get to a spa or a massage parlor. at times, these cold and cough lasts because there is something within us that can be best treated with a good massage. then in hte evenings before getting to bed, apply a generous amount of cold rubs at the neck, chest and back massaging for as well as you can.
another good thing to have at night is a glassful of warm ginger concoction. crush some ginger and boil it in something like 2 glasses of water. you may add some sugar and lemon juice for a better taste and health effect of the concoction. place the remaining concoction in the refrigerator if you cannot consume them all. take it first thing in the morning after having had the early morning glassful of drinking water.
i hope that you will soon be cured and be rid of your problem.

Well, I do take Echinachea when I first feel a cold coming on, and such a lot of times, and I have been Drinking a lot of Chrystal light since I cannot drink regular water without getting sick to my stomach.
I wonder where you can get Ginger as I have never heard of this. Sounds interesting.

Sorry to hear that you aren't feeling good:(
I went threw the cold phase last month. I ended up taking dayquil and nitequil rotation just to function. I have also found that taking neocitrin~ the hot lemonade flavor helped me to sleep at night. Hope you can shake this soon.

I had a few colds this year but they were not as miserable and serious as yours. Your allergy might have been troubling you and developing a cold. A cold stays only for a few day because the medication scares the germs in you away. You must try to enhance your immune system. Immune system is your body's self defence to fight against the virus or germs in your body.

Cold and cough when both are combined it make miserable. Just use honney with hot water if it can give you some relief. Contact a doctor who can be helpful. If not work that I would say migrate to some place wheres the temperature is normal and you may recover.

Of course colds make you miserable, if it was enjoyable then you wouldn't be worried about it. I don't like taking antibiotics unless it really is necessary, because some of the more popular ones can cause severe allergic problems. I've found that gargalling in the morning and evening clears out any muck from my throat. Taking Vitamin C and a spoonful of honey when I feel cold symptoms coming on helps as well, I've not had a bad cold for a number of years now.

I've had it 2 times this year and one time it turned into pnomia :( I was miserable for weeks and to be honest found nothing that helped except the one time I had been down for almost 3 weeks and went to my friend's house for lunch one day and she had made homemade chicken soup - not the stuff from a can. The next day I started feeling better. I tell everyone I don't know if it was Elma's soup or Pastor Earl's prayers (Elma's husband) but said if I ever get sick again I'm inviting myself for lunch and requesting chicken soup.

I just got a nasty cold last week that has really made me suffer. My colds usually start in the sinuses since I have post nasal drip. It then goes to the throat and then into the lungs. When I lived in Michigan and Indiana (USA) my colds would turn into upper respitory infections (especially during the winter), but they don't get that bad since I moved to Florida where we have a tropical climate. My wife is the same way. Living in Florida is much better for us!
