As much as tutorials can help, they aren't all that good.. usually you just learn how to draw what the tutorial show, in that particular style.
My best tip is to look at a wide number of different art styles. If you are interested in japanese comics, then maybe you should narrow it down to a certain style. Are you interested in the style of the shonen genre (Naruto, One Piece, D.Gray-Man..) or are you more into shoujo (Nana, Sailor Moon, Card Captor Sakura)?
Do you want to have a defined style, or would you rather mix between several?
(You can find more genres here, if you are uncertain. Not all of these have a disctinct style, but it might help a bit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manga#Genres)
Once you have decided what kind of japanese comic style you would like to be influenced from, you start to draw. Copy pictures from various artists (as training, of course.) Take bits and pieces that you like, and make it into your own style. For instance, I love how Ai Yazawa draw limbs, but I prefer the way Yu Watase does eyes. By mixing these with my own personal preferences I get my very own style.
After that... just keep drawing. It'll be slow in the start, you will waste a lot of paper and pen until you've started to achieve a good, personal style.
Don't give up! Becoming a good comic artist is hard work.
Ganbatte!
