Why do people get tattoos?

i don't have tattoos because it is against my religion, but why do other have them?

because they like them. why would you let some set of religious rules set down over 1000 years ago decide what you do with your life. We no longer live in a world where people aren't allowed to think for themselves.

For some of us our bodys are our story board and the tattoos tell the story....Its a form of expression to many of us ya know...HOwever, sadly there are ppl out there who do it jsut because a friend did or whatever which IMO is a MISTAKE especially if you are young....But for most of us, including myself, tats tell the story of our lives OR they remind us of somethign specific OR maybe its in honour of someone/something etc etc...

the main reason for tattoos nowadays is taht it is considered cool by today's teens as a sign of rebelling...Before it was done mainly by the pirates who lived centuries ago

Actually, its considered art by most civilized people. And tattoos weren't only on pirates. Most sailors got one the first time they crossed the equator. Even Britain's Lord nelson had one!
