Biting son

My 15 month old little boy has started biting himself and other people. He does this when he can angry for whatever reason. I have been told that if he was to bite me then I should bite him back. I dont know about this, I dont want to hurt him. Has anyone bit their children back as punishment? If so does it actually stop them biting?
