What a weekend i had! As some of you know, my hubby works away. Well since it was a long weekend here in Australia, i decided to go down to where he is and visit a few people as well. It was raining when we left, but not too bad, but it steadily got worse. The roads started flooding, so was a very slow trip. In one area we had to turn back and go a different way, then there was big hold ups on the highway with water over the road. There was no use turning back, cause the roads were being closed. It took us 6 1/2 hours for a trip that usually takes under 4 hours. Once we were there it got worse and there was lots of flooding with rivers breaking their banks. We were stuck there for a couple of extra days. It took us a long time to get back as well, but i had to get home. It wasnt as bad as going over though. The devastation is terrible. People are still without power, cars are wrecked from being under water, houses are flooded. The list just goes on. A big coal ship ran aground on a beach. One thing i cant stand though is the way low lives have took it upon themselves to steal from people and businesses who have been affected. Someone even stole out of an ambulance that had got stranded while helping people. There have also been lives lost, but luckily not many.
I am going to be putting some more photos on my home page if anyone would like to look.
One good thing though, i got to spend extra time with my hubby, and the kids enjoyed it too.

I would imagine it was very nice to see you hubby and he was glad to see you, but it sounds as though you put yourself in a bit of danger there, my friend.
Floods are awful once the rivers break their banks. There is still a current there, and they're highly dangerous. It sounds awful.
Still, you're home safe and sound, and no doubt elated at seeing hubby. Take care my friend. Brightest Blessings.

Yes, it was great to see hubby, and we had a couple of extra days together, which was good. It can get quite dangerous, i know, but i drove very carefully. If i had known how bad it was going to get, i dont think i would have gone. We were having some rain where i live, but nothing like where i went. It is amazing how the weather can be so different not too far apart. Not long ago i had a call from hubby, and it is raining heavily again, and he said if it gets too bad he will turn around and wont come out this weekend. But we have had a beautiful day with the sun shining.
Thanks for your response, darkwing, and best wishes.

We heard the news nearly a week ago about the wild storm that lashed Australia's eastern coastal areas north of Sydney, bringing torrential rains and causing flash flooding, road collapse, cutting local power and rail services and even causing the coal freighter to run onto the sand bank. It must have been a scary experience for people on the roads, as well as those stranded due to flooding and road closures. I'm glad you made it safely in these conditions to be with your husband.
I read somewhere that flooding of rivers due to heavy rainfall is the most common type of flooding in Australia, and in inland areas of New South Wales and Queensland, flooding can spread to thousands of square kilometres and last for weeks. Then in the hot summer months, we always hear reports of forest and bush fires in New South Wales due to the hot dry weather. It seems that Australians living in eastern part of Australia have no choice but to be subjected to these climatic problems every year.

Our weather conditions do cause a lot of problems. There are lots of fires in summer. It has been so dry here, we have been in drought for a long time. Some towns dont even have water. So the rain has been good in some areas. But the storms and flooding are not good. They are now saying there could be the threat of disease due to the flooding. Raw sewage has flowed into some streets. But hopefully everything will get back to normal soon.

Oh wow yes Ive heard about all the flooding in your area. Im glad you and the kids made it there okay. I know its been raining not stop. Right? I would hate that. When it rains too much here like for days I get depressed. And in a terrible mood. How is the weather now?

Gee Kay, thank God you are safe, I hope you weren't in any danger.
My sister drove up from Sydney to Tamworth on Tuesday and there was snow at Branxton! They also were delayed many times on their trip with trees across the road and minor flooding and traffic delays.
Isn't it lovely to be home safe and warm again...well, maybe not so warm today. It was 5 degrees in my kitchen at 5:30 am. Brrrrrr.

It is good to be home safe and warm. I have the fire on, as been a bit cold. Been a lovely sunny day, though. I put electric blankets on the beds yesterday, cause i hate getting into a cold bed. Isnt it amazing how weird the weather has been. And snow at Branxton. No wonder its been cold.
Thanks for your response, tickle, and best wishes.
Thanks also for the recipe, i am going to give it a go over the weekend.
