It's very simple really, if each one of us would only realize it. You know if we wish to change our system, our government, our status, etc as a nation, then all we need is a change in each one of us. But it's better said than done. But hey, please don't paint a picture of doom and hopelessness for our country. There are still lots of good people in government, lots of us who are enjoying quality education, better service, etc. But we are engaged in finger-pointing instead of sitting down to seriously discuss things which are doable. Of course, we can always "ask what we can do for our country, instead of asking what our country can do for us." The late Mother Teresa was asked one day how to make the world a better place to live in. Her reply was simple, she said: "Go home and love your familiies", then the world , our contry, will be a better place to live. It's something to reflect on....

Well I agree with you on the first part and last part. indeed a lot of introspection is needed and a truck load of nationalism.
but how many people do you think are enjoying good education (all levels), good health care? and the better services that you speak of?

I agree with psyche. It all starts with ourselves and yes its tough, we'll go through tough times, we'll have to get out of comfort zones, but isn't our situation already in the rough. Another thing we have to do is a paradigm shift of our minds. That is to alter our mind sets, yes from finger-pointing, blaming others to doing something good, to improve ourselves, stop procrastination, study, work hard, start a business and minding our own business. There's a lot to do and it's a hard work but there is no other way around. Only we Filipinos can save ourselves not the Americans, Canadians, Japanese or Koreans or the Europeans but only us.

The solution to our problem is this;study the problem yourself and be critical of the politicians and the media. What i mean by this is not to be influenced by this group that i mention, and also include the foreign diplomats and foreign media. If we can do this we shall know what to do.Do you think the foreigners have no vested interests,do you think our local politicians and media have no vested interests to protect.Surely they have interests to protect together with the big business. That is the reason why our economy can't jumpstart, they are getting richer, and we are getting poorer. If we can analyze our situation without any intervention to those i have mentioned,we can pinpoint what is wrong and what is right. No matter how learned and how high your i.q is you can't see the truth if you let yourself influenced by this self serving son of a ...

I agree with the last comment. The solution to any problem is within ourselves. Other people or nation can't change us or vice versa. Education is really one of the most important thing that anyone can have, and that doesn't necessarily mean formal education. There's book smart and life smart. Both are important but not the same. Knowledge is power but the application of that knowledge is what will make or break it. Unselfishness and self sacrifice are also very important factors. If we can remember and emulate how one's life's sacrifice in the persona of Dr. Jose Rizal, brought the necessary changes to 500 years of foreign abuse and oppresion, then maybe there is still hope in the "rock bottom" condition of the Philippines and her people in general. The question is: Is there another Jose Rizal, or Andres Bonifacio or Diego Silang and the likes out there??? Just my opinion, take what you can and leave the rest. Thank you for the chance to share pbzamora :+)
