Do you ever think of what might be in the water?

Alligator Gar - This thing is huge!!!Hard to imagine that they live in the very lakes we swimm in.

We live really close to Lake Texoma....so naturally I like going to the beach or out on the boat. There is just nothing like taking a dip when it's really hot out and it's fun to just play around in the water.I always knew that there are some big fish in the water.....but I never gave it a second thought....until I've seen pictures of a Alligator Gar.They can get up to 12 feet in lenght and weigh over 300 pounds. I might want to add that even so I like being in the water I'm very much afraid of being in water that is to deep for me to stand up in.Now ever since I've found out that there are Alligator Gar in Lake Texoma.....I've been a bit leary of going back into the water. There have been no major attacks reported....but I'm just not very comfortable with the thought of swimming in the same water with a fish that is big enough to eat me....if it chose to do so. have you ever thought about that....or does it not bother you?I got to go to Spain one year and I went into the ocean as far as my knees....but I would not go any further because I knew that there are Sharks living in there. Maybe it's just me and I'm just a bit phobic when it comes to water and things that live in it.....or does anybody els feel this way to?Would love to know what you think about that and how do feel about being in the water with something way bigger than you?

aligator gar - I found this picture while I was doing some research on aligator gars. This 10ft aligator gar was caught and photographed at Mhoon Landing in Mississippi in 1910.
I don't normally go into water I can't stand up in as I am not a great swimmer. I was never taught to swim and until I got married I never owned a swim suit. My parent wouldn't let us go swimming and they never taught us to swim. When I say us, I am talking about me and my sister. My husband and I have a swimming pool now and whenever I go traveling with him I love to go to the pool. I have a problem going into a lake or shallow river, because I can't stand snakes and that just scares me. But I do think about what might be in the water if it is not a swimming pool. lol!

Well my dads idea of teaching me how to swimm was toss me in the water. The water was just deep enough to where I could not stand up and in my panick I could not get any ground under my feet and nearly drowned.I have since then learned how to swimm....somewhat anyways....but anytime that I'm at the lake and I can't see the ground under my feet....I get very nervous and my imagination starts to run wild thinking what could be in there since I can't see. The thing about a pool is....the water is clear and you can see whats under you and the other side is never to far away and even if I get a bit panicked.....I can manage to swimm to the edge or at least the shallow part where I can stand again. It's really strange how you can enjoy something....but at the same time be terrified of it.

Although I love going swimming in the ocean or lakes I'm always worried about what I'm going to run into. I don't even like those tiny fish that are sometimes swimming around even though I know they are not harmful I just don't like them.

It's not that I don't like the fish(I love sitting by the edge of the water and feeding the little ones).....it's the thought of something that big being in the water with me that kind of freaks me out.
