My sons are 19 months apart but then there is a 5 year gap between them and my daughter. We want to have another child but think it is too soon right now. Our daughter is going to be 1 in September. What do you think is a good separation between children? We were thinking of trying for a 3 year gap between our daughter and another child.

There are 4 years between my oldest son & my daughter. That seemed to work out great. They've always been very close, never really went through sibling rivalry type stuff & he's very protective of her.
Then there are 9 years between my daughter & my younger son. They are still close & affectionate; but they're relationship just isn't the same as siblings closer in age. It seems to me more like when someone has a niece or a nephew when they are young. They may like to spoil them, show them off, etc but the age gap seems like they won't ever be 'equals' in a friendship, well not until they're adults anyway.
I'm also expecting now. The new baby will be 5 years younger than my little guy and 19 years younger than his/her oldest brother.

There are 18 months between my two daughters and 8 years between my youngest daughter and my son. My only criteria would be that the youngest is able to take care of his/her self so that the new baby is able to get all of your attention.
