I think that overall, this was one of the weakest seasons

The American Idol contestants weren't bad this year. I was even ok with the winner. Personally, I thought that the show had too many guests. While a couple of the guests were contemporary and fine, most of them were retreads trying to get a new wave going on their careers.
None of the guests during the season sang or performed better than the top Idol contestants. This was disappointing. The finale was fine and a little better than the season as a whole.

I don't think they were bad. I just think apart from Blake, they weren't very exciting. It was the same old big voices type great singers. Nothing new except for the beatboxing which people don't readily appreciate. Also keeping Sanjaya in that long began to make American Idol look like a joke. I have nothing against him but let's admit it, a lot of better singers got booted out before him.

I agree with the idea that Blake was probably the better bet for a unique idol. I think there is a good possibility he will eclipse the idol in the long run.

Well I think I could agree with that. The recent idol season is very weak in many aspects. One reason is what you have stated. Another reason is that the top 12 (in my opinion) is not the actual top 12 if the singing quality is concerned. There were guys/gals in the top 24 who should have stepped in to the magic 12 but they failed because of lack of support. Tsk Tsk...
For me the best season was that season where Carrie Underwood won. That season really rocked..

You are so right. The best season so far has been when Carrie Underwood won. I don't think any other seasons will ever be able to top it. I really think that was American Idols peek and now it just seems to be going slowing down hill.

I agree season 5 was much better then this past one. I was ok with Jordon winning also but it was just wasn't the same as the past shows that have been one and the reason way Sanjaya lasted as long as he did is beyond me they took a lot of good singers out because of him but America votes.

I agree. Some of the guests were unnecessary and are becoming repetitive. Particularly Barry Gibbs...how many disco/Bee Gees nights are they going to have? There are so many different eras that don't get featured, yet every season has a disco night.
This season is #5 out of 6 as far as my enjoyment...it still far surpassed the very bad Season 3 (IMO).

Give me a reason why you don't like season 3, and maybe I won't bash you.
;) I Love Fantasia...

I agree that Fantasia is talented, but I was never really a fan of hers. To me, her voice is too grating to listen to.
There was no real "Who's going to win" drama...it seemed to be guaranteed that Fantasia was going to win to the point that the judges pushed her every week and when the was in the bottom two (or was it three), "America" was chastised for putting her there. It got really annoying really fast and it made me want to stop watching the show.

I agree with you. I wasn't impressed at all with this season. Especially with the whole Sanjaya think. They took that way too far. I hope next season will be better, if not I will stop watching it all together.

Yep. Just the fact that JOrdin's "This is my Now" is now going down the Billboard chart and only peaked at 15 proves this.
In the past sesaons, all the coronation songs peaked at no 1, and even some debuted at no. 1.
