Herbal Medication or Synthetic which do you prefer?

Now a days a lot of scientists are looking for alternative cures for cancers, tuberculosis, and even aids. If you were ill now which would you prefer to take, a Herbal medicine which has limited theraputic claims or a synthetic drug but has side effects?
