Do you have laminate flooring in your house or apartment? If so, how do you clean it?I have laminate flooring in my living room, dining room, hallway, and 1 bedroom. I use the Swiffer dry mop for picking up dust and dirt several times a week. But for washing the floors, I find the Wet Swiffer leaves streaks. So I usually use a damp towel and get down on my hands and knees and clean it that way. It comes out looking nice with no streaks.

When we had laminate I used a damp rag on my Swiffer dry mop pole to was the floors. I used a very small amount of Avon bubble bath in a sink of water that that is were I would re-wet my cloth. I had a Swiffer wet jet until my vet gave my an article she found on the chemicals in the wet jet formula. My vet herself had to but down a dog from the chemicals due to kidney failure. Apparently the chemicals can cause organ failure in pets and small children. They don't leave the floor after the solution dries so your kids and pets are walking and crawling on the chemical then they lick their feet (pets do not kids) or put their hands in their mouth ingesting the chemicals from the floor. I never had streaks from the rag on the pole but then Avon bubble bath also does a great job on windows. put a small amount of it in a spray bottle add water, spray on the window and buff with newspaper. works great without the chemicals of windex or something like that and you can pick your fragrance.

Oh my gosh! That is horrible, I have been using the Swiffer WetJet for about a month now, I won't be using it anymore! Thanks for putting this in here, I have 2 daschunds, they are not on the laminate floor often, but enough that I would be worried it might hurt them.

Yes, I have laminated flors in my house. I have been taking up the carpet and that is what is in it. Except the kitchen has cermic tile. I use my swifters to clean it as well. But I tend to use other products and cleaners and spray them on the floor and use my swifter to go over it. This stops the streaks.

I use the swiffer wet jet. Not the wet sheets, but the one where you actually spray the liquid and then mop it up. I've had not problems with it. I usually just sweep with a regular broom. I find the swiffer sweeper doesn't pick up enough of the cat hair. Well, I'm not sure anything less than a suction pump will get up the amount of cat hair in my house!

I have hardwood floors. I use the swifter also and mop it once in awhile. I agree the wet swifter do leave some streaks so I use a sponge or ald rags to use.

Hi daycarepal I have laminate flooring in my living room and I love it! I use a swiffer for dusting, sweeping any mess and find that if I use a damp squeegy mop it usually works out streak free! xxxx

you have much more patience than I do. If it can't be cleaned with a mop, broom or vacuum, it's not getting cleaned !! I work too hard all night to get on my hands and knees to clean anything. My house it never immaculate, but it's presentable most of the time. LOL

I have it in my kitchen and one of my bathrooms. OH yea and another big room which is like a den. I also use the swifter duster but I dont like the swifter wet ones. I also didnt like the way it left streaks. So I use a mop and a good floor cleaner with a fresh scent to it.

We don't have laminate flooring but lenolium in the kitchen, bath, and laundry room. I don't like the wet swifter either. I just don't think they work all that great - and you're right they do leave streaks. I did have at one time a Floormate and I LOVED it. But if finally kicked the bucket and I don't have the money to get another one. At the time when I bought it we were renting a house with all lenolium and hardwood floors and it was a real handy treat! That sucker could clean a floor. Now I usually get on my hands and knees like you. I never could use a mop very good. As a kid I would much rather use a scrub brush instead.

I do not- I have a no-wax floor in the kitchen- which I just hate!! You can only use no-wax cleaners on it- I like to clean with Mr. Clean and Bleach- I put such a film on the floor when we first moved here- I didn't know- LOL-- the rest of the house is hard wood floors or rug- A mild cleaner cleans the hardwood- but we have to be careful not to scratch it!

We just laid new hard wood natural birch floors in our house. They are beautiful and very much fit the age of the home but the cats have been very hard on them. they use their claws to dig in and get traction. I was afraid the dogs or my son would damage the floors but its my cats. They have also decided that the wood trim in the house as better then their scratching post. Not to happy with the little boys these days.

Well, I can tell you what doesn't work. We had our laminate down for about a week when my youngest child (2) decided that she would clean the floor for me. She found my bottle of vasoline, and proceeded to smear it all over the floor. For 2 hours I scrubbed with a towel trying to get that petroleum jelly off. Finally, I did, and it wasn't perfect, but There is a shine like no other in that patch where she "helped." LOL!!!

I have laminate flooring in every room but the bathroom and kitchen in the house we are renting. I found the same thing, the wetjet just leaves streaks. I have done the same thing with a damp rag and gotten on my hands and knees to mop the floor that way. I just use Dawn dish soap and water to do it.

Hi friend, here in Kerala a small state in india, there is no laminate flooring. So I don't know how is its cleaning. Here mainly use marble on floorings, granite on kitchens and tiles on bathrooms. Its cleaning is so simple. Just pour water and clean with cotton. And put the fan on inorder to dry it immediately. Inorder to remove dust we use vacuum cleaner..... Thank you dear...... See you....

I have had exactly this same problem. My laminate flooring always looks terrible after I mop it. Streaks all over the place. Do you put any cleaner on the damp towel? I will have to try this...thanks. :) cheers,

No I don't put any cleaner on it, just a damp towel. My floors always look really clean, so I guess it's fine the way I'm doing it. It's so much better than having a streaky floor. I hate that!

I have linoleum flooring in the 2 bathroom and kitchen. The rest of the house has wood floors.Though the wood floors need to be varnish or sealed or whatever you call it because no matter how much I mop it it seems to still not get clean.I think it needs the seeling stuff on the floors.Because it will never get all celan until then. But we are renting this house so it is the landlords job to do that not ours. But I use a swiffer mop on my floors.I get the cheaper wipes that are called Tuff and Tidy at Wal-Mart.They seem to work good for me on my floors. An they are alot cheaper than the swiffer mop wipes to put on the end of the mop.I like my swiffer mop better than a regular mop because I think the mop doesnt get the floor as clean as the swiffer mop does and also the floors seem to dry better with the swiffer mop.

I have the tiles in my kitchen. I use a small brush and dustpan daily to sweep up the debris. I then just use a damp cloth and go over the floor. It is not a very large kitchen so it is easy to maintain. I was told by a flooring salesman that you should not use cleanser on your no wax floors. Diluted vinegar in water keeps the floor shining for years. I know an elderly lady that has used nothing but vinegar and water and her kitchen floor has a beautiful shine on it.

Oh you are so lucky. This is a long term goal of mine. I want so badly to be able to rip up every bit of carpet and lay down laminate flooring. I do vacuumm my carpet but no matter how you clean carpet is the worse thing there is for collecting dust and dirt. Not good for us asthma people. I think your method of down on your knees is by far the best way to wash any floor, but I'm no longer able to do that. I use a mop with hot water and a tiny bit of ammonia, this works well.

The townhouse I live in has laminate flooring and the lady that lived here before me wasn't a very good housekeeper and our floors look stained. I have the new Mr.Clean Magic Eraser Mop but it leaves the floors feeling kinda funny. I usually just spray cleaner or pour mopping solution down and wipe it with a cloth.

Armstrong makes a special cleaner for laminate flooring. I used it when I had it installed in my first house. It's like using Murphy's Oil. Just add it to water and mop. It works well. FYI - for anyone with pets, please be very careful with those swiffer things. I used to use them too - great and convenient. My dog threw up every time I cleaned with them so that didn't last long and I learned later there's an ingredient in them poisonous to pets. I don't use them anymore.
