only 11% of the united states accept that there is no god, 9% state that they consider themselves to be atheist.. that may not seem like much, but thats a lot of people considering America has the 2nd most population in the world.
in the UK, a staggering 85% consider themselves atheist. in europe, its 45%.
According to the 1994 World Almanac , there are:
# 161 million atheists in Asia
# 56 million atheists in the former USSR
# 18 million atheists in Europe
# 3.2 million atheists in Latin America
# 1.3 million atheists in North America
# .5 million atheists in Oceania
# .3 million atheists in Africa(11)
# for an approximate total of 240.3 million atheists in the world
the numbers have grown since then..
so what do you think?
and what is the reason for this?

To answer your Basic question....Are atheists taking over ?
If it Means peace without all o' the Religious confusion , then....I sure hope so. I don't think Theists are trying to " take over " I think they're just
trying to live their lives , without all of the Rhetoric , and Confusion ,
that is Inflicted with most religion. With all of the hypocrisy in Religion
( at least in American politics....) I've had my fill of Religion. And if that means , that I'm going to eternal-damnation....then that's my problem....I'll cross that Bridge too , when I get there!

Dear Fighting....I'm in your corner.....But not everything has to be
acted on or expressed so zealously. By your very title I would assume , that you are indeed a fighter , and while that's proven to be Most effective in Many aspects of life.....What a person believes in is a very personal thing , be it Religion , or in my case....hugging trees.
I agree w/ you Theists don't try to Convert.... they just want to get on about the business of living.

Athiesm got different meanings i guess.
Writers have disagreed on how best to define and classify atheism,[25] contesting what supernatural entities it applies to, whether it is an assertion in its own right or merely the absence of one, and whether it requires a conscious, explicit rejection. A variety of categories have been proposed to try to distinguish the different forms of atheism, most of which treat atheism as "absence of belief in deities" in order to explore the varieties of this nontheism.

atheism is not a rejection of supernatural things, its the disbelief

The media and communications is the cause in my view.
A hundred years ago the masses were unaware of much that went on in the world. They believed what their religions told them. They were not aware of the politics of various religions.
With the advent of the newspaper, the wireless, the television and now the internet, the masses are now aware of what is happening in the world. The wars, disease, hunger, thirst, suffering.
They now question that all those problems are their fault because of their sins to a loving, giving God.
They just stopped believing in religion and see it as a means of controlling the masses.

I personally do not believe that anyone truly believes there is no God. I believe that deep down, every person knows there is someOne out there much bigger than we are. We are not here by accident and we have a Designer.
I do not believe atheists are "taking over". God is in control and His will be done whether anyone wants to believe it or not. God will have the very last say.

Atheism is characterized by an absence of belief in the existence of gods. This absence of belief generally comes about either through deliberate choice, or from an inherent inability to believe religious teachings which seem literally incredible. It is not a lack of belief born out of simple ignorance of religious teachings.
